Re: Safest way?

My last two bikes have been bought with cash. On both occasions I had extensive discussions with the sellers, and involved train journeys to view/test the bikes. One was in Lincoln and the other in Warwick, so a bit of a trek from Edinburgh. Both times I handed over the cash, got a receipt, and the ...

Re: Play in final drive.

4. Get assistance to operate the rear brake HARD - this locks the rear wheel brake disc to the Final Drive casing so removing play caused by a worn Large Final Drive bearing. This method of diagnosis only works on rear drives which have the opposing piston calipers. The bikes with the sliding calip...

Re: ABS lights flashing on start-up

Self check, the sensors have to receive comparative signals from the revolving wheels before the process is complete. I think it has to be at 4/6 kmh. You cannot remove it by de fusing if you have iABS 'whizzy' brakes, you will have residual braking only. You will need to have it professionally alt...

Re: Valve cover tiny leaking crack ? repair options ??

With the covers being a magnesium alloy, I would be tempted just to go for a secondhand replacement (Sherlocks/Motorworks) rather than attempting a repair.

Re: 2004 K1200rsp rear brake master not pumping

I've never had the pleasure of working on iABS/Servo brakes, but if there is no fluid passing through the master cylinder, with the outlet hose disconnected, then it sounds like there is a blockage somewhere. (Or no fluid....) Fluid should flow under gravity, without any pumping of the pedal, if the...

The Carl Salter site is for an R1100s which has the six speed box. Didn't know that, I thought six speed boxes came out later.

The Carl Salter site has many other manuals. That's just the one I took a guess at.

Re: Scotland: West Coast planning

Instead of Glasgow/Balloch/Crianlarich, I would suggest Glasgow/Gourock, then get the ferry to the Dunoon area. Head North to Strachur from there. A much nicer route once off the ferry. Sounds like a great idea as I've read that the route straight north can get very crowded with campervans etc. Wou...

Are the holes in the base of the reservoir completely clear?
Possibly drawing air past the seal, rather than fluid, on the return stroke.

Are you closing the bleed nipple on each stroke? Air can be drawn in past the threads if you don't.

Re: ABS2 refitting the system

I have just removed mine due to persistent faults. Just wondering why on earth you would want to replace it!!!! Was yours not a servo or iABS system, rather than the earlier ABS2? I once replaced the ABS2 that had been removed from a K1100RS. I couldn't get an 1100RS modulator at the time, but the ...

Re: Clutch change/ BMW tools

As far as I know, the BMW Club is the only UK source for the hire of the special tools. I've little knowledge of the 1300s models, but I would have thought it unlikely that the ABS had any effect. (Unless its a servo braked model and you're trying to hold it in gear with the brake on, where there wi...

Re: K1100 engine back firing on overrun

Was the throttle position sensor disturbed when you had the throttle bodies off?
I once had a K1100RS which was backfiring and running rough, as the TPS was off.
Some info in here on the checking procedure:

Re: k100 cutting out

I presume that this age of bike is fitted with a mass airflow sensor?
These have been known to stick, effectively acting as a choke.
That could explain the richness, and not allowing the engine to warm up fully.
