Re: 2005 R1200GS ABS modulator

Hi Kevin. I’ve a 2005 RT 1200. My unit failed( wizzey sound brakes), first the rear then the front. You are left on these bikes with absolutely useless brakes. No matter how hard you pull them on there is very very little there. I had the unit removed by Roy Gardner’s at a reasonable cost. The main d...

Re: Fuel strip

Thanks Mike! I take it the flange is the one replaced under the recall. Getting used to the non abs brakes now, and so far they are great, quieter too with no whizzy sound.

Re: Fuel strip

Well, fuel strip replaced today at Chester Mottrad. No labour costs. I’d hoped to retain the failed one to try the zapping trick, but apparantly they have to return it to BMW under the warranty deal. So I have one month left now on the original warranty. Three fails in two years. I have written to B...

Fuel strip

Not a happy bunny. Went out this morning to top up and what do you know, gauge showing empty and a flashing symbol. Topped up and it appears the fuel strip has failed again. Fitted a new one November 15,failed March this year, new one fitted and now that’s gone. I think I have a month left on the or...

Re: 2005 R1200rt post abs removal

Hi all, quick update. Bike has continued to cut out at lights or on throttling back. Had it into Williams today and it seems the throttle bodies were well out of sync. Appears to be sorted, brakes are well better after the abs removal. So now to ride it! 😃Appreciated folks thoughtful comments.

Re: 2005 R1200rt post abs removal

Thanks guys for the info. King Herald, are you able to reach these parts with the plastic still on? Milleplod, yes, I had an 1150 and battery access was difficult. The 1250 is straight forward just lifting the seat. Ced, thanks for the photos. It looks like the plastic is off? Not something I've att...

2005 R1200rt post abs removal

Hi all. Looking for advice/ thoughts. Since the removal of the abs unit the bike has been running rough on tickover. It needed a new battery so I put that in and reset the throttle. It seemed to run a bit smoother on tick over. Went for a run today and a half hour into it, it cut out completely when...

Roadside breakdown / recovery in France

Hi all. Can anyone recommend a company for breakdown and recovery in Europe? It's too close to the end of my policy to add to my present insurance. Thanks.

Re: post servoectomy run out

Enjoy the run. It's a couple of years since we got up that way. But health has improved so we may make it up that way again. I'm going to have to get a brake pedal lever extension. It's so short I struggle with my size twelves to find it. Obviously got really lazy with the previous linked front leve...

Thanks for the response. Think I'll give it a good hard run out, the fuel has been sat 2 months at least. 6KG Jaythro? That's quite a lump!

POST ABS REMOVAL

Hi all. Got my 2005 1200RT back after having the abs/servo removed due to its failure. Now getting used to conventional braking. One thing I've noticed, it seems to run a bit lumpy and slightly more vibey than before. It could just be that I've been off it for two months, but should the unit removal...

Re abs fail.

George, you mentioned an independant in the Manchester area, could you give me contact info please. I'm hovering between a repair, or just getting shut of the abs/servo altogether.

Re: Brakes

Hi Mike, I'd make the arrangement with the refurbishment guys myself, they are BBA Reman. Williams would remove and refit it for me, I'm not up to doing it myself at the moment. George, I did live in Manchester but over on Wirral now. Do you mean Roy Gardners near Preston? He gave me the quote for r...

Brakes

Well, it's happened. Out today and lost braking, red triangle showing and brake failure flashing around 4 times a second. They came back then went, sounds like the servo( whizzy sound.) was on partially all the time. Got home and after turning off then starting again it goes through the self check o...

Re: fuel strip

Job done today courtesy of Chester MOTORRAD. However the part only carries the remainder of the failed parts guarantee. BMW's policy. Apparantly they give a 12 year warranty in the States! Some feed back, many of the failures are when the bikes been standing unused for a long time, which mine had. B...

Re: fuel strip

Hi Ced, there will be no cost to myself. Also with Chester taking it on it saves me a days trip to Manchester. Shame they can't retro fit the old float system eh? They had an 1100 rt in there today, sold. Immaculate and only a couple of 1000 on it.
