Re: ABS Problems After Changing Brake Hoses

As long as the ABS Lights are flashing TOGETHER before you ride off and only start flashing ALTERNATELY when you are riding, then this points to a high probability of it being a wheel sensor problem. What is the air gap between the front wheel sensor and the Tone Wheel (Pulse Ring)? [Sensor - Tone W...

Re: wont start

Hi Steve, George has given you a series of tests to do so I'll not add to your work loadload on this at present and will follow what is happening. One thing to keep in mind though is that you have TWO primary faults: 1. Fuel Pump is not priming. 2. Engine is not cranking over. I have had a look at t...

Re: wont start

Hi all, again thanks for all the advice, I attempted to make a test lamp out of a tail light bulb and wire's etc. Didn't go too well as attempt 1 melted the blob on the bottom of the bulb. Attempt 2 got the wires soldered on but not very well and became quickly unattached again. Went to halfords to...

Re: '83 R80RT. A Realistic Ownership Prospect?

Hi again, If you have ridden a '99 R1150GS for around 17 years then you must be reasonably competent at looking after a bike! Did you get it dealer/independent serviced or did you do it yourself? Having had a 1983 R100RT before my R1100RT I was a bit traumatised at the servicing of my first fuel-inj...

Re: horns not working

Hi David, Looking at the Haynes Wiring Diagram for your 1977 R100RS: The bike has TWO earth-connected horns operated by a Horn Relay. As I have found inaccuracies in the Haynes Wiring Diagram Horn circuit for a recent post, could you confirm the wire colours going to each Horn fitted to your bike? (...

Re: Gone and done it again.

Hi Pete, Further to my last post I have had a look at the /6 and the /7 Wiring Diagrams. If the Horn works when you apply an earth to its terminal connected to the Brown/White wire, then that confirms it is a Battery connected horn and NOT an earth connected as shown in the /6 Haynes Wiring Diagram....

Hi David,

Yes, the Horn button can be tested without removing the switchset from the bars, but:

To confirm, what series is your 1977 RS?

e.g. R100?

Re: Gone and done it again.

Hi Pete, OK, from your info - you have a 2-terminal horn with a Brown/White wire on one terminal and a Green/Black wire on the other terminal. This would indicate that the Horn circuit uses a Battery (fused +12v) connected Horn and not an Earth connected Horn as shown in the Haynes /6 wiring diagram...

Re: K75S: loss of power and ticking sound

I'm not well up on K-bikes, but, unlike the Oilheads, I don't think that the K-bike Fuel Pump runs at Ignition On until the Starter button is pressed.
Once the Fuelling Computer detects that the engine is turning over it takes over keeping the Fuel Pump running.

What sort of riding do you do? :-k

i.e. Social, Commuting, Urban, UK Touring, European Touring, Camping, Events/Rallies, Seasonal April - October, All Seasons, Solo, Two-up.

Advise all that apply to you so that the Airhead guys can better judge if the R80RT might fit the bill.

Re: Starting problems.

That's great news Geordie!

That is the new Ignition Trigger Unit good for another 50,000 miles now.

However, the new Alternator Belt is only good for, I think, another 36,000 miles on your R1150RT so don't forget to change it in time!

Enjoy the bike again!

Re: ABS Problems After Changing Brake Hoses

The sensors are fastened in position so it's not possible to move them unless the fixing screw is removed. It's more likely to be a damaged/faulty front sensor cable or the front sensor gap has been knocked out of correct clearance. The sensor/tone wheel gap is set by inserting/removing special shim...

Re: ABS Problems After Changing Brake Hoses

When I ride off, when I reach about 10 kph the lights start to flash alternately and stay like this. This indicates that the final stage of the ABS2 test sequence by the ABS Controller has failed. The most likely cause of failure is no signal from a wheel sensor when you ride off. As you have been ...

I had a good look around the USS Alabama in Mobile a few years ago, that is an impressive day out. Crew originally had to climb down to the depths of the bilges to get up into the gun turrets. A long, scary escape route should abandon ship be called...... Later however they cut access holes further...

Re: Gone and done it again.

Hi Pete, I am not sure if you are testing the Horn correctly as per Test 1 as the LKK terminal on the Headlamp Connector Block and has nothing to do with the Horn. The Brown/Black Horn wire should go to the Connector Block terminal 'H'. To re-affirm Test 1, look at the Horn itself - it will have one...

Hi jackdog, Have you got a Haynes or Clymer showing the Wiring Diagram? If so, the Haynes wiring diagram shows a 4-terminal Flasher Relay with terminals as follows: 31 - Earth connection [Brown wire]. 49 - Fused +12v supply from the TOP 8A fuse in the Headlight shell [Green/Black wire]. 49a - Flashi...
