Re: running problem

Great lots of info to think about, my bike is 2000 model i don't know which ecu it has, i can lift the tank again and tell you if i know where to look for a model number. and as far as stick coils go it does not have these i think they were fitted on later models. Hi Dave, See Phil's BM Bikes specs...

Re: running problem

I believe the early 850 did not have a learning CPU; I used to have a 2000 850GS John Hi John, Yes, it depends on the 850 model - see Phil's BM Bikes specs (Electrical System, Ignition) for info: R850GS MA2.2 http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/specpages/R850GS.htm R850R MA2.4 http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/specpag...

Re: running problem

It depends on which Motronic ECU variant is fitted. The early MA2.2 Motronic ECU fitted to the Oilheads such as my non-cat 1996 R1100RT is a basic ECU without any 'learning' capability and so doesn't have the 'Throttle Relearn' function. The R850, R1150 and I think the R1200C are fitted with the lat...

Re: No sparks again

Jon, From your previous testing, the problem is with the HT coils not sparking the plugs. There is one NEW test you can do but it requires you to measure DC CURRENT of around 5 Amps with your Multimeter. Look at your Multimeter instructions if you are not sure how to do this. TEST 1: Measure DC curr...

Re: Missfire at Higher Revs

Hi Graeme, That sounds like it is not the original coil fitted to the bike and only having one screw securing the coil would allow it to vibrate more than it should which is not good for a coil. However, the test will determine if the HT coil is working correctly or not although a fault may only sho...

Re: Missfire at Higher Revs

Hi Graeme, The Clymer instructions are correct but slightly mis-leading. What appears you are being advised to do is to disconnect the wire (Black?) from the 'earthy' side of the Ignition coil (terminal 1 or -) and TAP on/off repeatedly an earthed wire on this coil TERMINAL when the ignition is ON. ...

Life can be such a bitch sometimes. I sent an email to Sudhaus asking what is the difference between the DBGM and the DGBM keys referencing the DBGM S150 key and got the following response today: "Good morning, we have only 1 key in programm with no. S150, this is key 1150. You can get those from our sales partner which is Messrs. For...

Hi Goldy, The iABS-1 (ABS3) system is notorious for failing as you describe. I think you will be much happier with the bike after this system has been removed. Re: ABS Light problem.

Cheers Ced. The table confirms my suspicion that the rear circuit is not working correctly ... Gen light on and ABS flashing 4 times/second. The question now is how do I fix it? I can only suggest that you try a full iABS Brake Service (front & rear Control and Wheel circuits fluid change) in the s...

........If you are unsure feel free to check with Cedric I believe he now employs this method and has greatly reduced his oil usage now Yes, I used to have engine oil usage concerns on my 1996 R1100RT whereby I kept topping up to almost 'Full' in the sight glass. Since I adopted Jaythro's method of...

Re: tiny wee springs

I think that the wee springs might be the detent springs for the 'lever to bar' distance adjustment which is set by the adjustable disk on top of the lever. If so, there may also be a wee detent ball bearing to work with the spring against the adjustment disk. The detent spring and ball would provid...

Re: Krauser S150 key

Are the designations 'DBGM' and 'DGBM' typographical errors within the production process for the same item resulting in tools and dies being marked incorrectly and two designations appearing on the production items? It is odd that the letters used are the same but in a slightly different combinatio...

Re: Digital Cordless Compressor

A bit more info, it does not run while charging (I found a way Ced) and ignore the 90% in 15 minutes. It needs to be fully charged.
However all in all I am happy with the way the unit performs.

Thanks Rae!

Good testing info Rae!

When the inflator battery has been flattened, can the unit be plugged into a USB source and continue inflating a second tyre without being recharged?

Not a lot to do with Final drive oil leakage ??? Thanks chaps. .......One other thing whilst I think on it. The heated grips work, but are very weak. Re: R1100RS final drive leak.

When it comes to electrics, you might as well be talking in Eskimo. If you don't have a Multimeter, you can use a 12v 21W (Indicator) bulb with the two leads each about 1m long and terminated with small croc clips for voltage testing. A small screwdriver can be then be clipped to one of the leads t...

Re: R1100RS final drive leak.

Attached is a wiring diagram for the R1100RT BMW Heated Grips and likely the same as the BMW fitment on the R1100RS and R850/1200CL. Are your grips the standard BMW grips or aftermarket grips? The best place to start faulting your grips is at the 'Heated Handlebar Grip Switch' as in the diagram. The...

Re: R1100RS final drive leak.

It is likely nothing to worry about - some leakage from the Final Drive/Gearbox seals is common. What is important is to monitor it regularly so that you know how much it is leaking, and from where. This means checking the Final Drive and Gearbox oil levels as well to see what end is losing fluid. I...
