Re: Choosing coils.

Snowbum (Bob Fleischer) has some really good but lengthy Technical Articles on BMW Ignition systems which he keeps up to date. He has a unique writing style which often makes finding the info you want difficult amongst the clutter but worth persevering to get hold of his deep knowledge on the subjec...

Re: Weeping Cylinder Base

Damn, I've been shufflin' thru the pages of both haynes and Revue Moto Technique, and I can't seem to find any material on "broken smileys"... Rats. :-k A 'Broken Smiley' occurs when you are not happy with the way your bike is performing but cannot put your finger on exactly what is wrong. Haynes a...

......Hmmm Moderator / Admin to the Courtesy phone the Praying Smiley is Broken!

Been 'broke' for a while Jay!

There is another broken one as well - I think it is the 'Clapping' Smiley.

Both problems have been raised previously after we switched to the 'new' forum.

Re: 1989 BMW R80

From George's post about using the RealOem Parts Fiche (www.realoem.com) here is what it shows for a 1980 BMW R80, diagram 'Frame and Mounting Parts'/'Sidestand': http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0373-EUR-06-1980-2477-BMW-R_80,_R_80_7&diagId=46_0054 You will get a more accurate result if...

Re: Takoda Camping 2016

It's my understanding under the new regulations that using a touch-screen SatNav while driving can carry the same penalties as using a mobile phone.

If you need to set your SatNav then pull-over into a layby and do it while stopped.

Re: R1150R Won't Idle

What could possibly go wrong? I'll just finish my coffee first. Here is my view of the 'zero-zero' procedure: A Throttle Body (TB) is set up in the factory using an Air Flow Meter. The Stop Screw is initially fully backed off so that the TB butterfly is closed i.e. it rests against the circumferenc...

Thanks for the greetings and great info! It's a 2005 model & i've got a copy of the Motorrad repair & service manual. I've not done much electrical fault finding, so it'll be interesting to see figure it out :) I'm off Thurs so i'll have a play, look for any obvious damage, clean up the connections...

Re: Gear Shifting Issue

Hi Will, Welcome to the forum! What year is your K1200S? First, I know nothing about K1200S bikes so what follows may be rubbish. However, I think that your Gear Position Indicator (GPI) might be very similar to or the same as that fitted to my 1996 R1100RT. If this is the case, then you hav...

Re: R1150R Won't Idle

Hi Patrick, Glad you got it fixed! First, please don't refer to the Throttle Bodies (TBs) as 'injectors' - it confuses the post! The 'injectors' are the cylindrical objects fitted at 45 degrees into the TBs and which are controlled electrically by the ECU to inject fuel into the TB in...

Re: Black Widow.

Hi Goldy, Shock 'n' Unlock along with the usual penetrating oils contains a freezing agent which shrinks the component fractionally. I have been surprised on a number of occasions how a seriously seized thread loosened off. The technique is to apply and leave overnight then apply a fresh application...

Thanks. I've gone for the least noisy one but not got it on yet as can't get the lambda out of the cat. Had a 24 inch breaker bar on it but it won't shift so I've got a replacement on it's way. Re: R1150R Won't Idle

Hi George, Yes, the Oilhead Oil Temp sensor is for fuelling purposes. It has a secondary function of letting you know that the engine temp is ok via the RID Oil Temp Gauge (if fitted). The Oil Temp Sensor resistance varies with temp. The ECU can tell if a cold start is being performed using the Oil ...
