Re: New Royal Enfielsd 650cc twin

Yep, the TDM had a 270 crank. I rode a friend's a few times - it felt, and sounded, just like a V-twin. I just wish RE would make a physically bigger bike, I'd look ridiculous on one!

Re: Engine Oil

I've used this in my 1150GS: https://unipartautostore.com/mineral-classic-20w50-5l-motor-oil-5-l.html Also on eBay at a similar price for 5litres. Good find! I've used Unipart stuff for the last couple of services - they had their 15w40 on eBay at £11 for 5 litres, delivered. Its gone up now though...

Re: Engine Oil

I've used 15w40 mineral, or semi-synthetic, to the correct spec (SF?....can't remember!) for the last few services on my ST. I'm sure 20w50 is absolutely fine, but it seems to cost more! Call me a skinflint.....

Re: warning signs when buying a 2009 r1200rt

If its not been used for a year, I'd change the oil and filter, just for the peace of mind it would give me - £35 tops. Others might say it wouldn't need doing....and it might not, of course!

Also the rear wheel flange recall should have been done.

Re: Fuel strip

I had mine done earlier this year at RGM, an indy over Southport way. That cost just under £190 all-in, with the new strip warranted for the same 2 years that it would get if done at a dealer, and a 3 month labour warranty. No doubt the job at BMW would cost a fair bit more due to a dealer's labour ...

Re: Fuel strip

Or do the 'zap' trick, you might get quite a few more miles out of it yet. As an aside, I never could get my head around the 'diminishing warranty' thing. You buy one that's warranted for 2 years....it lasts 4 months....BMW replace it, but the new one only gets 20 months warranty. And so on. :-k Pete

You may be right.....he may have been right......my memory may be failing. At the end of the day, due to the improvements they offer, I'd use the EIX ones again even if they only lasted 10k miles.

Re: Iridium Spark Plugs Use for R1200RT

I've used the NGK DCPR8EIX iridiums in my ST for a while now, and have the same improvements as you - highly recommended. I started using them after querying them directly with NGK UK by eMail - I had a callback from a tech guy within 30 minutes of sending it, how's that for service! ...

Re: Removing engine mounting bolts

It may well help if the bolts are threadlocked into place - BMW use stuff that's allegedly stronger than the metal its used on and can strip threads if not heated first! It might also work if the bolt is made of different metal to whatever its screwed into - different rates of expansion coul...

Re: numberplate - three row?

Regarding enforcement....as a general rule, if the plate can be easily read, you shouldn't have a problem. I think ANPR is perfectly capable of reading a 3-row plate, in the same way that it can read normal-font plates no matter how they're spaced (ie A123 ABC is just as easily read when displayed a...

....about tyres. My ST has PR3 2CTs fitted. I've noticed a 1mm-wide, wavy line around the centre of each of them, for their whole circumference. It could be felt with a fingernail. Hmmmm....are my tyres about to fall apart?! rsz_1rsz_wp_20170810_004.jpg Turns out "it's a layer of carbon blac...

Hi Brian.

I thought you might have had the tank off for the ABS unit removal, as that's when your issues started....but as I don't have a clue where its located, that was speculation!

Re: 2005 R1200rt post abs removal

Someone in the 1150 section had a very similar issue after a battery change, which had involved lifting the tank - it was a dislodged throttle cable. I don't know much about 1150s though, so can't help much more than that....could it be the same thing?

Re: Liber-t (SANEF) Télépéage Scheme

I made a very snazzy little holder for my tag. I used a very small zip-lock type bag fastened on 3 of its sides to the inside of my screen using very neatly-cut tape - the opening edge being left free. It can't be seen from the outside of the screen, courtesy of its dark tint, and works perfectly. I...

Re: Crush / Sealing washers

Hi did you ever hear of the uncommanded "launch" at RAF North Coates? The story I was told by someone serving there is that the CO went off each Friday afterrnoon to his holiday home. After he left some operators returned a missile to stores and burnt some grass around the launcher then waited. A s...
