Hi
when I looked at my R100R battery yesterday I remembered I should warn you to put a strop around the battery when it is out so you dont have to try to wriggle it out with your finger tips,

Keep your back straight as well

Doesn't make sense.

It's a BMW original part that suppliers here get from the same place as Sherlock, ie BMW ! :???:
Retail price tag is 90€ (Approx 75 quid).

Only two possibilities :

- Sherlock is making crazy profit [-(
- You were not talking about the same thing (there are three types of switchgear for a /7, some in the 150€ range for late 83/84 models)

Did you actually provide your bike VIN# and/or the part number ? (#61311243866)

Because the bike has had lots of changes, I emailed a photograph of the part, they confirmed I do have the correct switch gear that's meant to be on a 1978 r100s. I was told the part number is 108731. I just googled 61311243866, that's a different switch to mine.

Some good news, my other half went to the garage and she's came back with an estate car full of spares, so there's plenty parts to sell of to raise money for the bits for this bike.

hi
if you can afford not to sell for a while, then take time to think what you want to do with the bikes [unless it is an r100r single seat, in which case sell it to me cheap]

dont sell the leg shields if you find a Pair cos you will want to Put them on the 100r

My other half had a few days off work so I asked her to get me a battery. Cracking customer service from Startright in Leeds, they didn't have one in stock, so one of the lads stopped work and drove to the suppliers and came back with a battery for her while she waited. I've just fitted the battery and poured a gallon of fuel in, I wasn't sure what to expect with it being stood a while but it fired straight up. It's a tiny little bit smokey but sounds sweet. I'm very happy today. I just need to order a left side switch and sort a headlight and I can look at getting this for a mot and on the road.

Great news, the fella that owns the garage has rang up, his friends have been searching the garages and have found the headlight. I'll get that collected next week and then order a handlebar switch. I've got a week off soon so I'll get it in for a mot and see what it needs, hopefully nothing with a bit luck.

I'm pretty sure the bike has had the RT fairing on since way before her dad bought the bike, so it's very unlikely there'll be any more bits like the original fairing.

My other half called at the workshop today. This is the last of the stuff that they have found for us. The missing headlight, an exhaust tool, some filters and key rings / stickers. Really glad the headlight turned up. I rang James Sherlock on Monday and he sorted me out with a replacement left switch which is on it's way in the post.

I managed to get the head light switch rebuilt, very tricky but did as people said and built it up inside of a clear builders bag, all working ok now.

I had a few days off and took the bike for a mot test. It passed which was good. The lock stops needed adjusting as the forks were hitting the faring bracket. The tester noticed my volt gauge was reading very low, I checked the bike with a multi meter and there's no charge going to the battery. A few people on Facebook told me to check the charge light, I did and none of the lights in the cluster are working. I looked at the clocks and the plug behind them was hanging below, that's as far as I've got at the moment.

I finally got to ride the bike there and back to the garage. I enjoyed it but the gearbox is hard work compared to the r100r.

The Charge Light needs to be working at Ignition On in order to 'excite' the Altenator Rotor to produce a magnetic field to start the charging process.

If the Instrument Cluster is not plugged in (I think its connector has a retaining screw to prevent it coming loose) then the Charge Light will of course not be functioning so there will be no charging.

Charging can be confirmed by the Charge Light going completely out at above 2000 rpm and also by the voltage across the battery terminals rising from around 12.5 volts at idle to 14.0 - 14.5 volts at above 2000 rpm.

On the faired bikes there should be a nut and bolt that goes through a hole on the frame to restrict the fork movement and prevent them hitting the fairing.
