/5, /6 tank knee pads

Postby Tony the Skin » Fri May 19, 2017 10:36 pm

Can anyone suggest a glue up to the job of sticking the rubber knee pads to the Petrol Tank. The glue used on mine by a previous owner has not worked.

I used double sided tape made for external use on my R75/6. Got the tape from a large Oz hardware chain. All good so far

The last time I did this (not on a Beemer, but same job) I used Evo-Stik- as a contact adhesive. The key is in accurate positioning; you only get one chance!

Agreed - Evo-Stik does the business, but make sure you follow the instructions - apply smoothly and let all the solvent evaporate away fully before putting the pieces together. Excess glue can be peeled away when dry.

Thanks for the help. Whatever has been used in the past is still tacky on the rubber pads. The job was done over 18 months ago before I owned the bike and has never set.
Will see how it goes.

Tanks can get surprisingly hot in the summer. can cause 'ordinary glues' to soften and fail.

I have used an industrial strength contact adhesive marketed for sailing purposes (cant remember the name but any decent Chandlers should be able to help)
