1978 R 80/7 Value

Postby BOXERUSS » Sun Mar 07, 2010 9:29 am

Hi all,
I have recently accuired a 1978 R80/7 in great condition and showing only 37k miles. Im a bit new to this type of bike and would like to know what sort of value to put to the bike. It has additional panniers, twin discs, full stainless exhaust, cast wheels and is black in colour.
Any help would be appriciated as my insurance company would also like to know.

A sound old BMW bike, that needs no work and has a current MOT is worth around a £1000 as a starting point. You can add value for history, stainless exhaust, good cosmetics, luggage and other accessories. I have seen some really beautiful /7s reach £2500 but they are quite special.

Although its newer (and maybe not so sought after) a good idea of price can be seen here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-R80-RT-1986-M ... 2305c20c25

Have you tried approaching your Insurance company for an agreed price/value? If they do 'agreed valuations', all you need are 3-4 good clear sharp photo's (one of which should include the speedo reading) 'e' mailed to them with your valuation, lets say for arguments sake £1300, they will assess the bike and let you know if they agree with your figure or a lower one. (They will NEVER go higher!)
