F 650 CS strange behaviour

Postby herr e-byker » Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:57 pm

Hi folks, I'm new to forum use but thought I'd give it a bash anyway.
Has anyone had a problem with an F 650 CS (2001 model) cutting out, after a few minutes running, when slowing?
This has happened several times to me and is a little annoying now. The engine starts again on the button but it
just cuts out again when the throttle is closed. I have found that switching off the ignition and waiting about 30 secs
seems to cure the problem for a few hours, days or weeks, but it keeps coming back.
I'm wondering if it could be the oxygen sensor, but its only a guess.

Hi , welcome to the forum...tends to be a bit quiet with regard to the F650CS!
Re the stopping...you may find the 'Black Belt Gang FAQs' of interest. There is a long missive on the correct starting procedure which I have found very useful. My 01 model runs much sweeter when the correct start is carried out, - it's all to do with the fuel injection/timing getting into step at the outset. FWIW. Turn on ignition, wait until Temp light has gone out. Press and hold starter button, when it fires hold button down for a further 2 seconds. If for any reason the engine doesn't run properly or stops, wait 10 seconds before restarting.
It works for me! - hope it helps..

Thanks 'Tony P'. I think it's worth a try. I don't have a riders handbook, which might have mentioned this, and can't seem to find one on line to download. I don't suppose anyone has spotted where I could find such a thing?

Hi herr e b... I don't think there is a mention in the handbook of start procedure I outlined. The article on the 'black belt gang' site was penned by a BMW mech who had been on a BMW course. If you can't find it on the site, let me have your Email address and I will scan it in and forward it to you.
Thanks also for your comments on the gearchange clunk, irksome but liveable with!

Thanks Tony. I took your advice and eventually found the article.(after getting waylaid several times!) Of course my bike has not played up since I posted the question and I hope it stays that way, but I,ll miss the wonderful sound it made crackling and popping on the overrun through my Arrow can! It still crackles a little but nothing like during it's 'funny turns'.
Thanks again.
