Peak district

Postby k12pfc » Thu Jun 15, 2017 8:07 am

My first ever visit to the Peak district is coming up soon, never been to this area before, always head for Wales, the lakes or the highlands, so I would like your recommendations on a biker friendly pub/hotel in a town preferably so we're not limited to one drinking place, and what are you're fave roads, any places off main routes to visit? Anything really. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there,

In the "white peak", (southern Peak District) Ashbourne is a favourite of mine.
Plenty of pubs / guest houses, B&Bs

In the "Dark Peak" (Northern Peak district) try Hathersage, or Castleton.
Buxton and Matlock are both good, but (IMHO) two "touristy" for my liking.

Avoid Matlock/Matlock Bath/the A6 in general at weekends and bank hols - gridlocked with traffic, a complete pain on a bike, never mind in a car! If DerPol are still running Op Focus (probably renamed by now), then the camera vans are all in the Peak in the summer months, looking for bikes! I can't recommend anywhere to go as I don't ride in Derbyshire....except when leaving or coming home!

We used to meet at Ladybower Inn regularly, it has changes owners a couple of times, based on the last time I was there I would give it a miss.
You may want to do more research as things do change.
