Not riding for a while !

Postby K.C. » Mon Jul 11, 2011 8:29 pm

Following a broken femur on Saturday 2nd July and a pin being inserted the following day,I now find myself languishing at home unable to ride for several weeks.I do not enjoy this ! I'm a courier(by choice),and have been such for over 27 years.I receive nothing from the state--even though I am not in receipt of my Old Age Pension.I cannot yet undergo "adventures"in my garage (on crutches).I'm getting REALLY PISSED OFF. On the funny side(?) It wasn't the result of a motorcycle accident ! It was my First hospitalisation due to Skydiving.Hundreds of jumps without a problem--then a broken leg.It wasn't a problem with the canopy, the problem was with the silly old fool underneath it !

How about castors on a zimmer frame? You could put a brake lever in the top bar, go faster stripes on it and a set of panniers :-"

Sorry - spent too many years in the RAF not to be affected by the typical aircrew response - ie why jump out of a perfectly servicable aircraft? Hope you mend soon.

Thank you,ps. The planes have to be "perfectly serviceable" to get us the altitude we cannot get enough of.My maximum was 22,000ft in Arizona which gave me one minute and forty three seconds free fall.

Just a thought to help stop you getting bored at home KC - why not write an article for one of the bike magazines on how to be a bike courier, what you need, what to watch out for, suitable bike etc? It probably wants to be about an A4 page (not more than about 1000 words) with a couple of applicable photos and with a covering letter to the editor saying that you have been a courier for over 27 years (i.e you know what you are writing about). :-k

You never know, maybe it will be the start of a new career

Following my recent surgery and "pinning"of my right femur today found me at a local hospital for assessment (?) My right thigh was duly examined and a request for X ray made.Arriving at the X ray unit a request was made to uncover my LEFT leg ! "It's my right" I exclaimed." NO NO NO he said,Look at the paper" Showing my scarred leg almost convinced him ! He still had to check with a doctor rathr than believe me. New hospital,no record of me or my recent operation.NHS computer system ? Don't make me laugh .

Good job you were awake else they would have x-rayed the left leg and presumably pronounced you fully fit!

To further complicate matters my wife has picked up a dose of "Delhi Belly". This means she can always beat me to the toilet--But I usually win the race to fall down the stairs!

I have been grounded as the gearbox on the AJ needs attention !! It nearly killed me getting it onto my lift. I'll hopefully sort it next week.
The BM and others are too heavy for me to use at the moment.

The operation to remove "locating pins" went smoothly--if painfully ! Still not able to bear weight on broken leg.If No improvement in a few months,I'll have to consider selling my bikes (2rt,1rs,2 Matchlesses).Thats going to hurt!
