Pop Pop Boats

Postby Galactic Greyhound » Tue Jan 30, 2018 8:37 pm

Here is a great item for fathers/grandfathers to buy/make for the youngsters in their family.
Note: Adult supervision required when youngsters are using this item!

1. Do-it-all-yourself version + see and hear the 'pop pop' Flat Plate (Membrane) Boiler engine in operation:

OR;

2. Buy it complete, make up from a simple kit, or use the parts to design your own vessel - all Flat Plate (Membrane) Boiler engines/parts/spares are available for separate purchase from this UK supplier at very reasonable cost:

NOTE: Some YouTube videos provide instructions on how to make simpler versions and these are sometimes described as 'pop pop boats'.
These simpler versions often use the 'Coil Type Boiler' and NOT the traditional 'Flat Plate (Membrane) Boiler'.
The 'pop pop' sound comes from the expansion and contraction of the 'Flat Plate (Membrane) Boiler'.
A 'Coil Type Boiler' will likely therefore NOT produce the traditional 'pop pop' sound and might be expected to be silent in operation.

DON'T forget to fill the Boiler with water before use!
