Sheffield City centre 1902.

What a fab little film

Did you spot the little man that changed the direction for the trams? Wonder how much he got paid?

I wonder how many people got run over by the trams? they weren't going fast but every one just walked across the road in front of them!

And the little boys at the end! no change there, waving at the camera and trying to get in the shot like they do to news reporters now days

Hi Lolo,

Yes - I suppose that chap was a 'pointsman' who levered the track over to the correct routing.
I am not sure if he was one of the tram crew who jumped off and ran on ahead to change the track.
It would be expensive to have all the points manned otherwise.

The trams must be going quite slow as no-one seemed to care much about crossing in front of them!

What struck me was that the streets had no cars and were very clean!
I wonder if the horse cart/carriage drivers were required to pick up the horse poo?

Here is a guide to who was paid what at different dates:

Nice little film and very smart liveried coachman around 4.09, but I'm intrigued by the tram showing 'E' at about 50 seconds in which seems to cut across the viewers tram without any tracks.
