More new toys ...

Postby slparry » Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:55 pm

... madder than a box of frogs, I've ridden for 38 years and have never been so in awe and intimidated by anything like this before!

My K was in for a warranty engine loom replacement, dropped it off Friday afternoon and was "forced" :) to have the S1000RR overnight, returned it late Saturday afternoon. I cannot explain just how mind bendingly fast they are, combined with exquisite faultless handling, braking that's like hitting a brick wall .... oh and did I mention how fast they are :) .... they'd make a hooligan from the most mild mannered of us :) Go and test one, even if it's not your thing, it really is one of motorcyclings awesome experiences ! :)

Anyone who's ridden the latest generation of K12/13 engines will, I'm sure, back me up in saying they're incredibly powerful, however the S1000RR is a whole different ball game!

I love the look of the S1000RR, but I don't think I can contort my body into the correct shape to ride one these days!!!

I thought the same, and it was a struggle at first but within 20 minutes it was OK :) Perhaps it was having to focus 110% for dear life :)

Sounds like someone was impressed !!
Very, considering this is BMW's first foray into the hyperbike market they've hit the nail right on the head. No wonder the press have been impressed the S1000RR is an awesome motorcycle and could along with the latest line up be the saviour of the motorcycle arm of the marque, the've moved the customer base to a younger set that can grow as opposed to the old customer base that was diminishing. I think it's a marvelous direction for them and the fact they've given the Japanese competition a bloody nose the first time around is fantastic.

I figure with owning an old R80, an R1100S, a Funduro and a slant K1200GT I have most of BMW's bike model styles covered and all have their place. Quite rightly had they carried on just doing aircooled boxers the bike division would have closed years ago. The early K's were awesomely reliable, I owned 5 K100RS's and all were utterly reliable and fantastic machines. The F650 is a fantastic fun little introduction to the BMW family and the boxercup oozes character. The K1200GT is stunningly fast and comfortable. The S1000RR files the complete nutter slot in their line up. Sure it may not be your cup of tea but you have to respect that it's a fantastic machine built to compete against some really severe competition and not just competing but giving them all a bloody nose.

I know many stick in the muds decry BMW's nowadays but their line up is truly dynamic and exciting compared to the quite frankly dull days when all they made slightly dull but worthy workhorses.

Bear in mind that during the day's of the Rover debacle BMW came within days of being taken over by Ford, how long do you think the bike division would have lasted if Ford had gotten their mitts on the company from the Brandt family!

hi slparry I agree with you but BMW wanted to do away with the boxer engine and only produce the K series, they should of done, I have owned several of both and the K engines are in a different class and when I have sold my current boxer I will buy another K and never another boxer I am afraid.

Look Ive got one just the same! In fact my second one, they are that good!
You are quite right - awesome bit of kit and quite fantastic to ride. This snap was taken while touring in Spain last month, proving that you don't need an RT to go on holiday……..However Mrs MarkyMark refuses to get on the S1000RR so I'm picking up something else tomorrow;
Just got to remember which one is for me and which one is for the pillion!
