Your powers of intellectual observation and wit to guess the most difficult part of the question first is astounding.

The easy part of the question is what make is that box thing with one wheel fastened to the side of the BMW :-k

I'm sure Mike will be along to correct me, Dennis but I think it's a Busmar - I also think that's what Mike runs around with attached to his KRT - had one of those aon an old Norton many years ago.....

Denniss a GEMINI (LO-LINE SPECIAL) It was made by Fred Yates at his premises at 285 Dudley Road, Winson Green, Birmingham. In the early/middle 80s it would have cost 925 fitted, optional extras were an interior light, sliding window. roof rack, tow bar and a Britax safety seat. The additional headroom bit/thing is not standard, someone has added that.

A friend of mine ran one for many years, he had five children and, with his wife that was seven up and he towed a trailer tent all this with a R100!! in excess of 130,000 mls he only snapped two frames The chair eventually succumbed to the ravages of time and was uneconomical to repair.

Fred gave up making them some years ago, due to a bad heart I think ??. If hes still about he would be an old man now. Jim DArcy ( of Charnwood Classic Sidecars) had the patterns off him and used to make them to order (very expensive!!) I dont know how many he built tho (not many probably!!) or if he still does, the last I heard of Jim, he was trying to sell up.

Fred made four models to cope with machine sizes 350cc, 500cc, 650cc and in excess of 750cc. They all looked similar, only differing in size. He also made one-offs to customers requirements, the Duck is particularly rare and much sought after. They were all on a square section chassis with a Bramber suspension unit. Constructed in marine ply, the lower body was clad in Ali and the upper body covered in a leatherette cloth (thats why they rotted)

My sidecar is a Busmar Astral not a Gemini (very tatty on the outside, but o.k. on the inside with the original seats still!!) theres a picture of it on the site some where, but if youd like a snap of it let me know.

Are you getting a liking for one ??

These outfits where very popular in Romania last year from custom painted to workday outfits

Image

This is the same type of outfit but in southern Germany. Picture makes it look better than it was but the owner would take 250 euros for it.

Image

Dont know how ruffty tuffty these outfits are but they seem to be able to take a lot of knocking about. The new ones which are apparently available in this country for 6300 have uprated 42bhp engine Italian switchgear and alternator and German bearings.

How do these compare with something like Royal Enfield outfits, that you can also buy new.

Hi Dennis
how did you find out about the Bike Safe Show? I was in touch with Lans police last year and they told me they were not involved

Hi George

I found out about the Bike safe event as I had called in at the new Harley Davidson shop in Preston. The event itself was quite poor, but I just go because I enjoy looking at the bikes in the bike park.

This Sunday at The Church Inn Bell Lane Bury is a bike show which includes street fighters, classic bikes, auto jumble. Starts at noon.
So no doubt there will be some hairy arsed Bury bikers there. I wonder why they never have a competition for the tattiest tattoos. I am going, then probably go to Rivington afterwards.

Cheers :occasion5:
