Took front brake pads out, cleaned, inspected, Copperslip on the back, trying to cure annoying squeaking under braking.

100 mile round trip up to Buxton pass yesterday, Over the hills again, a nice ride out I do every week or two.

Re-fitted my repaired mirror. Repaired and fitted the seat lock. Fitted the replacement silencers. About to fit the new battery. If there is enough time left in the day, I'll torque up the new drive shaft bolts and wrestle with the new rubber boot.

Pic taken just before fitting the replacement silencers:-

Still a few jobs to do but hopefully I can get her started soon ( for the first time in 12 years)

After all the faff or tuning/balancing my carbs I took her for a little spin to Cockermouth and back, big road out, back roads back.
The up side, runs oh so much better.
The down side got hit by the only rain squall of the day. at least the big old fairing on the RT's keeps most of the wet stuff off.
Hey ho, thats the 'fun' of biking. :?:

Changing the rear bevel gear oil.
Why is it always milky with water? Is it the more direct breather and exposed position resulting in greater warming and cooling (or Scottish weather)? The gearbox oil is never affected - does it get warmed more effectively by the engine?
One of life's little mysteries :-k

I didn't see my bikes today as I was at the Classic Mechanics Show at Stafford.
I did though pick up a Surefoot side stand for the R65lS from Motorworks and pre-pay for heated grips which saved about £45.00 in show discounts.

Rode the R100RS properly for the first time. Highly impressed, for a 40 year old bike it's totally effortless, gearchange much sweeter than I'd been led to believe would be the case. Front brake requires a firm hand (original under-tank master cylinder) but not too bad once you get used to it. Very smooth too; the R80 can feel a bit buzzy when pushed but this thing just has loads of grunt.

Worth waiting 40 years for.

Nearly got me a right numpty who suddenly decided to step of the pavement because she was far too busy messing about with her smartphone instead of (a) watching where she was going, and (b) checking the traffic before stepping in to the road. Lucky for her that I was (a) going very slowly due to other traffic, and, (b) had my 'numpty radar' switched on because of riding in town.
No apology (as expected) but the Plastic Plod (PCSO) who saw the whole incident gave her a right dressing down in full view of everyone.
Karma or what?

Fitted new front disc bobbins to my 1100r. Fairly simple job, but a bit fiddly. I took the wheel out to make life easier.

Now the discs don’t wobble 1/16” in all directions.

Hi, today I have ridden my 1989 R100 Rt through mud, road slime, drizzle and mist to get a part for my 1992 car. Total miles done today 100. Lovely and warm and the bike felt sure footed and planted on the road. The front brakes are very good the rear brake not so and so I will adjust it in the morning. I bought the bike last week and rode it 360 miles home. The bike looks like it’s gone through a ploughed field as it is now absolutely caked in country roads slime. Total miles on the bike 12,500. Really enjoying my first air head having owned K bikes in the past.

As it was a truly magnificent day, sun shining, blue skies, etc, I thought I'll take my 79 reg R100RT for a run along the Solway coast.
I headed for Carlisle along the ****ing A595 and tuned off just south of the city to head to Bowness on Solway then followed the coastal lanes towards Silloth, going through wonderful places such as Cardurnock and Anthorn, (a big antenna site formally known as RAF Nuthatch across the Solway from Annan).
Had a 'chippy & brew' stop at Allenby just south of sunny Silloth on Solway. O:)
Made my way home through the villages to avoid some road works at Scary Maryport and arrived home with a big smile on my face and as stiff as a crutch.
I've let Brunhilde cool down and put her to bed and will soon be heading for a shower closely followed with a nice big glass (or two) of muscle relaxant.
Wonderful day out, nobody tried to kill me, all in all a great day to be out on a classic touring bike.

That's a nice route for a bike on a good day!

When I am down that way I usually stop at the 'Greyhound Inn' in Burgh by Sands and if I have the hound with me they allow him in while Irene and I have a meal.

It always amuses the staff and customers to see a greyhound in the Greyhound Inn!

Fitted new front tyre to Friedrich.
Wet and dried, then Solvol-ed the rim to make fitting easier, plus improve sealing.
Went for a ride and promptly forgot about scrubbing in! No issues, just realised I took some bends at normal speed in the first ten miles!
Well, it was dry and I had brake cleaned the tyre.

Best roads: 623 Burgos to Santander. A back road to Metz; can't remember which!
Schorsch 1978-80 R65 - bit of a Shetland pony; frisky and naughty.
Friedrich 1993 R80RT - a Percheron, but can still mix it with the rest.

Today I'll move Lottie outside the garage while I get to work on giving the garage a couple of coats of brilliant white paint on the inside walls.
But first of all, I'll have to explain that all the new paint isn't for a pre Christmas makeover of the lounge, kitchen, bathroom etc. [-X
