to me it would mean 2700km to get there and back (also 2 times 2 ferries) in probably no too good weather..... really have to think that over
think it will be a week rather than a weekend.

Like wise I went on to visit friends in North Ireland & despite the weather had some great rides out covering the northen coast line, shall be heading that way again this year. If you are wanting a stop over en-route you are welcome to stop of at my place which is in Luton depending on which port you sail into.

Welcome, Brian......

You'll have a great weekend.

Most will probably travel out on the Stena HSS sailing at 10am from Holyhead and some will be staying at the Holyhead Travelodge the night before.

looks like the 10:00 am HSS is no longer taking bookings for vehicles  at least it won't give the option on the on-line booking.
May take the earlier one at 8:00 but it only gets there 30 mins before the HSS

I've just run through the standard booking procedure (not with the discount code) and it was happy to book the Stena Express 10am sailing.

Thanks for that Phil

Just phoned them and there are vehicle places left but not at the discounted price, so I will probably book the earlier ferry going out and the latter ferry coming back as the the saving is about £100.

just got to get some new waterproofs

Bugger - that's unheard of.......

I've checked tho and you appear to be right. Stena Explorer (the normal HSS) is out of service from Sept and seems to have been replaced by Stena Express which is listed as full for vehicles which only leaves the option of the cruise ferries....

Not a problem going out (8.20am) but it'll make a damn late arrival time getting home...

Hmmm.....

I've just checked through normal booking channels and booking isn't a problem....... I'd hang fire on booking for now, Brian and I'll chase up my contact to see if there's a work-a-round.

My guess would be that, as this is a new ferry, someone has simply forgotten to add it to the discount scheme.

OK, I've just had confirmation on this.

Event bookings are not valid on the new Express 'cos it's a tiddler and only holds 100 cars............

I'll get a look at timings but it looks like it needs to be the 8.20am cruise ferry on the way out..

Really? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

How long did you ride for? did you do, to the ferry, and the ferry on the friday night and stop over? How long does it take to get to Ballyvaughan once off the ferry?

Unfortunately, this sort of rally has to be out of season (probably Oct or later) to be able to get the houses at realistic prices..

It now looks like there is little choice but to use the slow ferries unless folk are happy to pay full price - this means docking at Dublin Port rather than Dun Laoghaire as normal.

Holyhead is around 190 for me so would be 10 miles less for you - 3 1/2 - 4 hours - sailing time would be around 4 hours and it's around 150 from Dublin to Ballyvaughan - half of that is motorway so it shouldn't be too bad.

It was killala so I don't know about ballyvaughn. First year I skived off at dinner on the friday and got the evening boat. When i got to killala Phil didnt believe I was me as I wasn't due for at least 3 hours. i got across Ireland rather quickly! If you leave early on sunday the afternoon boat gets you home in time for tea. The last time was also a friday dinner skive of (in fact i think it is essential really) and instead of going straight to killala we went up and round the top of ireland for a looksee. We got in to killala in time for a Chinese take away and 6 pints of guiness.

Damn about the ferry! My fault for leaving it so late! I've booked on the earlier 8:20 ferry and the later one coming back. At least I'll miss the rush hour trying to get around Brum!
