Pics of my Spain/France tour

Postby ilkleyal » Sun May 30, 2010 7:09 am

Just got back, 1850 miles of riding 1400 of which in Spain/France with only the one 90 Euro fine #-o

Anyone planning a trip through the Pyrenees should note the pass from Ainsa over the mountains to France is currently closed because of tunnel works.

Needed a detour to the next pass from Ainsa going east but every mile was in glorious sunshine with some of the best roads in the world. If only every road blockage in this country resulted in the same!

Weather last week in Northern Spain/southern France was very hot and sunny and we only got wet once riding round the autoperique around Paris in the rush hour on the Thursday while we were making our way north on a 440 mile ride from MIllau.

As always, don't speed in France, I was caught by a skinny Gendarme hiding behind the very last tree on a long avenue of trees exiting a town on our way to Brugge. I was just speeding up to 70KMH from 50KMH as the town had already come to an end. Cost me 90 Euros and about 40mins. I doubt I will ever go back to France, as it’s very difficult to remain on the right side of the law with their petty driving/riding laws and sneaky low-life tactics.

Otherwise, a great time was had by all and my bike returned great fuel economy and was 100% reliable. As were the other 3 bikes on tour.

Thanks for the write up and the pics Al.
It's brought back great memories of last year's riding and camping to the pyrannies for me, and making me look forward to my Spanish trip in a couple of weeks.
Sorry to hear about your fine.
Did he just get you / lead bike, or all of you ?
I think I can see a sat nav on your bike, if so, did you have the camera database on it ?

Bet you can't sleep waiting for that tour. I could not for 2 weeks before we left.
Only got me, I was a bit ahead not because of speed but because the others had gone a slightly alternative route.

I do have the camera database on it but dont use it. In any case this was a thin woman with a radar gun hiding behind a tree!

Have a great tour and post some pics.

Hi Spot,

Its the best I have ever had, my mate on his VFR reconed I almost had the panniers down for much of a days high speed ride last monday! Don't know how far they really were from the ground but I was right off the edge of both sides of the rear tyre

SWMBO was at home, its still a bit much for her to do a trip like that and its a lads tradition each year we go to Europe in May/June. Maybe another time 8-[

Yes, can't wait.
It's been a long time coming, but damn work keeps getting in the way of excitement...!
The two nights on the ferry getting to Bilbao is going to draaaaagggg....before the sweltering fun begins.
Bad luck with the fine.
I guess I better make sure I take some extra Euros....!
I'll do my best regarding the photos.

I would be good to share our tour photo's! How about opening a facebook group for ther club where people could post their Pic's?
I dont know how to do it but I am a member for other groups and do know that it can be closed so it would be open to members only.

Good Idea?

Who can do one?

Face book

It would be easy to do but not sure its a good idea?

It would pull against the forum I think.

May be we should just share facebooks with each other like we do at the moment rather than make an official BM page?

But happy to set one up if thats what everyone else wants and no one else fancies doing it.

Can we not set something up on the Club site? That way only the members share then we don't upset the elders

Would be good if they could but only 3 low res pics seem to be allowed! which brings us back to the start :???:

Needs a bit of thought I recon.

The only problem with that is that I'm already seriously overcommitted with Club stuff as it is, I've been ill and still am and I'm way behind with many things including work.....

I'm a long way from convinced with Facebook - many folk, including me, refuse point blank to sign up for that because of security issues.

Yes, Cynth has 1,000's of photos but they were uploaded in batches to my server by Cynth - I then had to download them, manually re-size every one, insert them into a website and then upload them. That was a massive undertaking over the 3 years that she was away and it ain't gonna happen here...... #-o

The simplest way to deal with this is if those who want to upload large amounts of pics would be if they sign up for one of the free hosting services that will host your photos and then simply add links here to the photos. Done this way there is little restriction on how many you can post. Incidentally, the size and number restrictions here are because of database sizes - this forum runs on a 100Mb database.

I will check if we have any facilities that could be used for what you're proposing but it'll be on the back burner till I get caught up with things.

You could also try picasa which has its own downloadable interface from google allows you to manipulate and resize pics and save them in albums, allowing open or restricted use.
