From Heathrow to Glasgow via Hull in two days. Any tips?

Postby Cameleer » Mon Jun 19, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi everyone, need some local knowledge here. Will spend the night in Hull and then have the whole day to ride to Glasgow, any must-see or must-ride?
Planning to go through Cambridge, Boston, Hull, and Edinburgh (no tourist stuff) unless someone suggests otherwise. This is my first trip in the UK btw, and really looking forward to it!

Thanks and best regards, Cameleer

Hi Cameleer - make sure you take in the Humber Bridge as you come up from Lincolnshire to Hull....it is free to cross and so you might want to ride around and go back over it as it's awesome especially on a sunny day.
Hull to Glasgow via Edinburgh has many options - you could get very scenic across country or stay sensible and quite scenic and go with the main roads A68 or A1(once you are North of Newcastle)

Have fun and be safe

A697 is actually the best route. (From Morpeth, then through Coldstream)
It's scenic, and quiet.
My son lives in Scotland, and I use that route regularly

Thanks guys, I like the A697 idea but may not have enough time to go on slower roads. Leaving tonight for London so hopefully the good (hot) weather will last for a bit longer!
Cheers and thanks

Sorry to say but as a 'heads up' you may need waterproofs. Having watched the local news tonight, sporadic and localised thunderstorms forecast for the North East Wednesday and Thursday. Check the Met office weather report in advance. Good luck, I'm sure you'll get some great weather too.

Hi guys a quick update.
Ended up going like this:
Heathrow-St. Albans-Boston-Hull-York-Scotch Corner-through the A66 to Carlisle and then all motorway to Glasgow.
Had to ditch the Edinburgh option due to time constraints.
I managed to escape the rain.
Thanks for the info!

Hi
I am pleased things went well, some good roads to ride there (plus some that just joint them together).

The roads around Boston have big skys to me, living in a city as I do

Accross the top to Calisle is good as well
