Yes, just got it loaned back.

Will maybe look at getting a better sleeping bag though after last year's experience - the Lidl 3 season bag was too cold with the freezing temps encountered at Haggs Bank !

You probably need a four season bag, Ced - that's what I use for normal camping in this country. Only time I use a three season one is when I'm camping in the US and I bloody freeze if I'm in the mountains...... You'd cook in a five season one (yes, I know we only have four but bag manufacturers aren't aware.......

Thanks Phil - 4 season it will be.

There is a good camping shop in Paisley near Glasgow - I think it is Summit Outdoor and they did a good mail order deal on my Trangia alcohol cooker set last year so will look at their website.

Hi
I tested out my 3 season one, well known brand, good web reviews, apparently good spec, a couple of days ago in the house and it was only just warm enough with a thin liner. I think it was money wasted and wish I had bought something better.

Indeed, my bag is a 4+ season bag and it says extreme use at -31, wouldn't want to camp in those temps though

Hi George and Keith,

There is a label in my Lidl 3-Season bag which says the Tcomf (Comfort) temp is +6C, the Tlim (Limit) temp is +1C and the Text (Extreme) temp is -14C .

Haggs Bank went down to near -6C in my reckoning last year and I got little sleep the first night having to keep getting up and putting on more clothes eventually wearing everything I had including my woolly hat!

I will be looking for a Tcomf of below 0C for my next bag!

Hoping to get there but will be a late decision. George - what is it with you and camping now? Thought only the deranged camped according to you.

I've been thinking about getting a four season bag after last year, considering a down one because they pack up a lot smaller, but are at least double the price.
Hopefully it won't be as cold this year as Kirkby Stephen is nearly 1000 Ft lower than Haggs Bank.

Hi Nick,

I considered a down bag but looking at the temperature ratings the down bags are less efficient and more expensive than the synthetic-filled bags.

Although the down bags can pack smaller there is not really a lot in it for motorcycling from what I could see.

George, I know you weren't going to this event but you seemed to be showing an interest in camping equipment. Can't make Saturday as I've got a "heavy" night out on Friday so Saturday morning will be recuperating. :drunken:
Hope I can make it to see Ced's cooking skills that I heard so much about last time but unfortunately didn't witness. =D>

Well I won't be repeating the exercise (hopefully) in my borrowed tent again but am happy to demo in yours how to make a super fry-up and provide a window on the local bug life in one operation!

Hi all,

Just a reminder that we are getting close to the May day camping weekend at Kirkby Stephen (Cumbria), it's just over two weeks away, the dates are 29th & 30th April and 1st May.
The cost is £20 per person for the three nights, very close to the town (10 minutes walk, a bit faster if you stride it out!) with pubs, restaurants, takeaways, shops and chippies.
Suggest we could have a natter over a pint on the Friday night about what attendees might want to do over the weekend, I've got a few ideas for 'ride outs' etc. but It'll be all very democratic - promise!
Not been there myself (yet) but Takoda camping comes very well recommended.
Plenty of B&B's in the area if you don't want to 'rough it'.
Nick.
