Glad you all had a good time and so sorry I couldn't have been there but chest infection meant I simply couldn't have done the camping.

With all the rain we had it could have turned into pneumonia - a wise decision! 8-[
Sorry you couldn't make it - it was a good venue.

Good to catch up with you all. Many thanks Nick for getting it organised.

The ride home was interesting with some of the crosswinds on the A685 the strongest and most uncomfortable I've experienced. The bike being blown sideways 2m at a time!

Good site, good company, good weekend

Hi
pleased you all had a good time.

Any of you (Keith has said he is coming) fancy Beamish? You can stop in a hotel the night before, or after, or both. I went to the combined Pub/Italian while you were camping. Travelodge is fine, Italian restaurant was very good, wide ranging menu or you can just have a beer in the pub

..... Thanks to Nick Jackson for a successful camping event - the weather wasn't great but the good company made up for it. ..... Nick had also arranged for the presentation of commemorative mugs to those who took part which was a nice touch.
Yes, many thanks - my commemorative mug is now in use ! =D>
I must have missed Tony by minutes the first time round, and I was in town having lunch when he spotted my bike.
It was a 400 mile round trip for me, but a good run down and back, and good company there.
Let's hope I can make it to the next one !

Well, I've got my tent dry and the bike washed of the corrosive stuff and my riding gear sorted out.
Thanks to all who braved the elements for the Kirkby Stephen camping weekend, the weather was 'iffy' to say the least.

The attendees were:-

Me. Nick (Nick Jackson)
Steve (stevehiles)
Keith (Ruralman)
Ced (Galactic Greyhound)
Nick (nick.ct) and partner Lynn
Gordon (gogs01)

Tony the Skin also appeared but unfortunately, we were out riding - sorry Tony.

Our ride from East Yorkshire was a mixed bag, starting off with rain, turned to wet snow on the A170, fared up around Thirsk and pretty good
until Hawes where we made a conscious decision not to do Buttertubs Pass and 'stay low' to Sedbergh before turning right to Kirkby Stephen.
The last four or five miles was horrendous with driving wet snow and poor visibility.
Friday night saw a window of opportunity in the weather for getting the tent up and we all had a meal in the Black Bull, not to mention a pint or
two!
Saturday dawned wet, but as I'd planned a ride out, we set off around 10:30, I made a balls of it and turned left instead of right out of the campsite, thinking on my footpegs, I carried on and did the route in reverse, up to the A66 and headed for Penrith, the rain was torrential, however, before Penrith the rain stopped, the sun came out and it was fine and sunny, the old A6 is a fantastic road with very little traffic, it was decided that we'd go to the Lakeland motor museum, guided by nick.ct's sat nav, we got to where it was supposed to be..........nothing, no clues!
It was eventually found near Haverthwaite where it had moved to in 2010 - sat nav's shouldn't always be believed!
It's a fantastic museum including lots of vintage and classic bikes including a lovely R90S.
On Sunday, some went off to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway, they all got P***ing wet through, Steve and myself went to the local Stainmore railway to see the progress of their reopening project, dinner in a local café, couple of pints in a pub and stayed dry.
Myself, Steve, Nick and Lynn went to the Bay Horse in Winton on the Sunday night for a social.
Monday was windy with heavy rain, most left about 10:00, Steve and myself set off around 11:30, and by that time the rain had stopped and we got nearly all the way home before we hit (light) rain again.
Thanks to everyone who attended, it's a great campsite, the general opinion seems to be they'd like to go again next year.

Despite the weather you can still have a great time with the camaraderie of like minded motorcyclists!

Thanks to all
Nick.

If it's at the end of July, I'll be in Orlando - so, unfortunately, no

In spite of not having to go to work any more, my calendar is pretty full ! When I can attend club events, I will - they can be good fun.

Follow the blog (link above), Keith. No campsite as such but they've done remarkable things.....
