Cosford 2017

Postby george baker » Thu Nov 10, 2016 2:43 pm

Hi
following on from a discussion elsewhere that was drifting off thread

How much interest is there in visiting Cosford Aviation Museum? http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/plan-your-day.aspx

A dozen of us can have a tour for 30 quid, choices include
* National Cold War Exhibition (1 hour)
* Extended Tour (5 hours, including lunch break )
* Michael Beetham Conservation Centre (Friday Afternoons 1 hour).
Or MY preferred
* Standard Tour (2 hours)

Would there be any interest in stopping over at a Travelodge (Type of hotel) nearby, the night before to save travelling down on the day? I know some people would not go to one of these, even if we paid them, but it would make good use of the time available, allow people from far off to join us, is better than camping Early in the year, divides the total mileage into two parts.

A Travelodge would cost about 40 quid for a twin room mid-week, we can pick one with a pub nearby for a meal and breakfast within 20 miles. That would allow us to be there for 10.30, have a tour from 11 until 1, coffee/ lunch, free form visit to the site for a couple of hours and set off home about 3.30-4.00 before the evening rush hour.

I have in mind MID WEEK, Late April or early May 2017.

If you think the trip is a goer then post below and I will ask the committee to agree. We can sort out the Tour closer to the time.

Hi George,
Anita and I would be interested in this event, using Travelodge or similar, not camping.

Put me down for that please George, if it's a hotel job then April seems good as we're off to wales in may.

Funnily enough I drove past cosford twice this week from hotel to where I'm visiting. Maybe a. Special rate can be secured, It's a country hotel in the sticks not expensive and reasonable quality. Leisure centre and golf course type of place. Shall I make enquiries,?

Hi
yes please Tango, see if mid-week is cheaper than weekend

I think we could get Travelodge Twins, bed only for about 40 quid, I suspect breakfast will be £7.50 each so if we can get a deal.......... especially in somewhere decent....

Hi George,

They inform me that a bit early for rates, but around that time of year £65 B&B. Much dearer than I paid last week.
So Travel Lodge Telford with Toby carvery pub next door £38 if booked now.? (no refunds) £54 Flexi rate.
Or take chances nearer the date
Have you decided on a date yet?

Marty

Hi
I just need to choose a date (based on cheap travelodge) and ensure that they have a volunteer to do the guided tour

Hi
Monad 17th April looks like a good date since on Sunday 16th April Travelodge has rooms for 28 quid

I am inclined to book a twin room for myself

Let me know how you feel.

Hi
yes, which made me wonder why it was so cheap. The 9th is the same price if that would be a better date.

Bryce and I are planning to go to Wales for a planning visit in April so my month is filling up. I can look for other offers if no one else is interested. I dont mind being Billy No Mates so happy to go alone

Easter might be busy for us in the shop, so the 9th would be better for me, as no one else appears to be interested George.

Let me know and I will book a room at £28 a room each is OK by me also.

Then do a anyone want to join me

Hi
I just booked Travelodge Telford Shawbirch, Arrival Date: 09 Apr 2017 Departure Date: 10 Apr 2017, double (twin is not an option) for 24 quid

EDIT
You can book a family room to get a twin, buggered if I know how to do it, the advisor on their chat did it for me.

Bryce plans to ride down on the day if he is free but since I usually share with him he still has the option.

next job is to see if we can get a guide, but I will wait until we see how the bookings go before I ask Cosford

Hi
sounds like a plan coming together, who was the Brat who posted in another thread that he would come? Was it Pete?

Like Tango said Toby carvery pub next door , and there is a pub down the road which may have better beer, that said I like carveries even though I understand complaints about the veg.

Ps, Travelodge is 14 quid cheaper than last week
