Sewells and Whitwams in France

Postby raesewell » Wed Oct 04, 2017 2:13 pm

I am off to France with Melanie and my mate Mike W and his wife Cheryl on the 12th for a few days.
We are staying at the Premier Inn Harlow on the 11th to break up the journey, we should be there at about 6.30 pm so if anyone is in the vicinity please pop in for a coffee/chat.
Abbeville is our destination for a couple of days and then staying in St. Omer on Saturday for the short hop to the tunnel on the Sunday.
As usual I will try to remember to take photos.

It'll slow down a bit over the winter.

The ride down to Harlow on Wednesaday was a wet one. Mike and Cheryl were already there when we turned up, but it didn’t take long to shower, change and head for the bar.
Thursday morning was light cloud with some sun poking it’s nose out from time to time. The journey to the tunnel took about an hour and a quarter and we had plenty of time for a coffee before boarding the train.

On arrival in France it was more sun than cloud and the temperature was rising.
We took the motorway to Boulogne and had a coffee and a nice apple tart with cream (yum).
Then we took a non motorway wiggly route from Boulogne to Berck and then back on the motorway for the last few miles, we had both had enough of riding by then.

On arrival in Abbeville we found a couple of parking spaces right outside the hotel.

The weather was sunny and warm for the rest of the trip.
In Abbeville we found a nice cosy and friendly restaurant where the food and service were excellent. Here is a picture of all of us before tucking into our dinner.

After Abbeville we headed for Saint-Omer which is a convenient place to stop off for a night before heading for the tunnel. The journey to the tunnel was in sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

All in all we all had a great time in excellent company.

Hi Rae,

Glad you had a good time and decent weather in France!

Do Mike and Cheryl have the same bike as you?

Yes, sort of, Mike has a 2017 model which has the LED lights all round, 6 speed box and slipper clutch but essentially the same bike.
