Painting my rusty cat..

Postby farmerboy » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:10 am

I am sick of looking at the nasty exhaust (catalytic converter) on my R1200Rt and I am thinking of slapping a bit of very high temperature paint on it. Has anyone done this ?
Just wondering if it sticks ok to stainless steel and what sort of preparation is recommended.

I used that to paint the rusty old splitter box on the r80,
It looked like a rusty old splitter box that had been painted.
Seriously though, it did stay stuck on, and with good prep should look better.

I shall give it a try... probably with matt black to try and hide it!

A wire brush, sand paper, degreaser and tack cloth followed by Hammerite high temp paint and I now have matt black exhausts and cat! Not sure I would choose this colour scheme but it is much better than the rusty look!
We shall see how long it lasts....
