First disaster....

Postby farmerboy » Sun Jul 17, 2016 5:29 pm

I bought a 2006 R1200RT last night... cleaned it this morning and promptly dropped a pannier on the drive. Gravel rash just nicely on the top where is will be seen by all..... gloom! The other one was already scratched but sods law says I had to drop the good one!

Anyone know where to find the paint code on these?

I really need to be more careful :(

Can you polish out the damage?
You might not get it perfect but would a good working finish suffice?

Ooooh....bugger!

My mate's VFR pannier got hit by a flying half-brick that came off the back of a lorry....glancing blow, took a real chunk out of it and left multiple scrapes/gouges. He was lucky it didn't hit him really! Anyway, he took it to a local (to us) 'smart' repair place. He didn't have a paint code, but they matched the silver perfectly, and the pannier came back looking as good as new. In fact, it prompted him to have a few marks on the tank done at the same place. So, all's not lost, its fixable....and not necessarily expensive either, they only charged him £55.

Yes, I think I shall get them all painted when the summer is over. I am planning to strip it down and de rust all the nuts and bolts and try and get it "tidy" for next spring anyway.

Ref bricks .... I recently had a full house brick fly from between the rear tyres of a truck and it hit the windscreen pillar....(car) frightened me! I am told they are supposed to check for debris lodged between the tyres when they leave a site but many do not bother...
.... anyway still sunny so off for another blast on the "sickle"... love the 1200RT... its addictive!

IIRC the code may be on the label on the top of the rear mudguard visible when you remove the pillion seat. 354 Titan Silver is common on the 12RT. Sorry youve had a mishap, its so annoying. I find that as I get older Im forever scuffing my boot on the pannier lid!
