Re: Help re R1100S clutch

Six-speed boxer Beemers have a hydraulically actuated clutch. Not cable. Which requires at-the-very-least annual attention to the fluid and the inaccessible slave cylinder. Since changing out his bog-standard Sachs OEM clutch friction plate for the newly-available longer-hubbed plate, Motorcycling M...

Re: Transmission judder.

Maybe when you replaced the friction plate in the clutch pack, perhaps you didn't observe the correct circumferential location - some of these clutches are 'balanced'. Normally, before tackling a clutch pack after pulling the tranny back, I carefully paint alignment marks on the flywheel and each co...

Re: R1150 ABS Bikes - Clutch Access For Dummies

I've just replaced a clutch on a Spanish guy's 1150GSA. He wanted one of the 'newer' longer-hubbed plates now available from the usual Spares people. The bike had a certified 103K kilometres on the clock and the original untouched Sachs friction plate that I took out measured between 5.95 and 6.14mm...

Re: R1150 ABS Bikes - Clutch Access For Dummies

The cop comment about their patrol Beemers going through clutches regularly is borne out by the experience of one of my sons, who's a Fleet Manager at a police vehicle maintenance centre in the UK. He says the same applies to the newer wet-clutch Authorities-version Beemers, with similar clutch wear...

Re: Plug change R1150RS (twin spark)

Hi Russ, Check the stick coils sitting on the end of the two main plugs down the tube in each cylinder-head. If there's a line of rust down the length of one or other of them, prepare for failure ! Last year a UK supplier who's supposed to know, supplied me with four new Iridium NGK plugs, but the t...

Re: R1150 ABS Bikes - Clutch Access For Dummies

Thanks guys - your favourable comments are very much appreciated. Only problem now is that Motorcycling Mo can't find the clutch plate he bought from me 3 years ago. IF he could, that would be a total of three boxer 1150 bikes that have been recently subjected to the three s's - the Sykes Stranguula...

R1150 ABS Bikes - Clutch Access For Dummies

Having just this last fortnight done two clutch jobs on R1150 bikes, I thought I'd write up a Step-By-Step before my old noddle forgot what I did. I'd searched the web for How-To videos for this job, but the only really detailed video is the famous and thankfully now revitalised and relocated Chris ...

Re: New gearbox input shaft deperately needed !!

A new shaft is currently being offered for sale on the German eBay at ,€266 plus shipping. That's about the same as the BMW Spares price. Which is of course entirely extortionate.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Slave Cylinder - the absolute effing load of total garbage

Jürgen Tills at tills.de was reasonably fast delivery of the better-quality Slave Cylinder, about a week, Ian plus he supplied the Mickey Mouse green paper gasket but no hollow banjo bolts and new crush washers, which thankfully I had already got from MW in Meltham Bridge.. My holdup continues thoug...

Hi Richard, you're located not far from me here on the s.e. Med coast of Spain. A namesake of yours, who's a Brit riding a K1200RS in the USA, has made a short video showing what has almost certainly happened to the Quick Disconnect high-pressure male fitting on your tank-output fuel line. Re: Headlight changeover

Enjoy it, Rich. Lucky for you that your Mrs ( Her Indoors ) also likes biking. The 1100 machines were great - cable operated clutch ! Not the dad-blasted hydraulic type that plagues us 1150-ers. When I did what you're currently fixing, I offered my driving-on-the-right-hand-side-of-the-road headlamp...

Re: Oil cooler leak

I was stranded roadside in the lovely countryside of southern Eire a couple of decades ago with only 3 hours to go for the return ferry from Dun Laoghre, when a small stone hit the side-mounted oil cooler radiator on my then-pristine-new, metallic green R1100R. BMW Roadside Rescue in Bracknell or so...

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Slave Cylinder - the absolute effing load of total garbage

Thanks Ian ( lurchio ). As you know from our WhatsApp chats, the new seal is installed and I await the arrival of the new non-Magura slave cylinder from tills.de in the Ruhr. See you Friday - and a blob of your hi-temp sealant would be welcome and might be worth a smear in here :- https://i.postimg....

Re: Headlight changeover

The square-shaped RT headlight is available in two different versions - right-hand- and left-hand-drive. It's not adjustable- like it should be. More loot for the Greedy Berlin Pig. BMW = Bring More Wallet. On my New Concept Honda, the headlamp sensibly dips DOWNWARDS not sideways, so the vehicle ca...

Re: Clutch or gearbox gone........? (fek!)

Says 'mjolinor :- "one serious design fault. Did they never fix it at manufacture?" Yes they did - by totally redesigning the motor and transmission in 2012 and fitting a Chinese-outsourced WET clutch. But it's true in 30 years they never fitted a balancing, stiffening thrust bearing at the far end,...

Hydraulic Clutch Slave Cylinder - the absolute effing load of total garbage

When yesterday I ruined a perfectly pleasant Sunday morning by pulling the wretched, gold-durned, copper-bottomed, atrociously-pathetic thing off Motorcycling Mo's giant year-'04 GSA, there for us both to see with the aid of the flashy CREE flashlight.....was the typical little puddle of rank-smelli...

Re: Oil cooler leak

The Rider's Handbook that came with the bike sternly warns against any jet-wash cleaning operations. On my first lovely Rockster, five years ago, I noticed severely bent and squashed fins visible inside the back of the oil-cooler radiator on the L/H side of the tank. I'm certain that this damage was...
