Re: R1150RS engine protection bars - origines?

I like the lower section not sure about the top part. Dave. I've seen some simila lower parts at eBay. Whoever had rocker covers pierced following dropping the bike (I always carried a tube of epoxy resin "fluid metal" in the panniers of my old R 80, for on-the-spot repair), would never ride any Rm...

Looks like the towel heater radiator in my bathroom......
Yep.
Great for hanging your socks and skids to dry when camping.

Re: Hazards

One of the better tips I was given as a new rider was, 'always
assume you haven't been seen'.
Funny the things you remember.
The words of my instructor when I was a new rider often echo in my ears.

"If in doubt, don't"

Re: R1150RS engine protection bars - origines?

These must be custom made or adapted
No one makes (or made) engine bars for the fully faired 1100RS.
Believe me I've checked.

Re: Hazards

To me it's quite simple. The speed leading up to the crash, whilst illegal didn't pose a danger but an experienced rider looking at the junction ahead would have thought, it looks a bit messy up there, I'll slow up and start planning an escape strategy. I always remember my advanced instructor rammi...

Re: Unusual lurch

Just read the following in relation to the R1100RS on a forum giving advice to a prospective owner. I'd say pretty much the same applies as they are basically the same bike. -------- Like most BMW's the shocks went away pretty fast. Cheap fix is to buy low mileage shock take offs. Good pricey shocks...

Clutch thoughts.

I've been seriously thinking about adding a K100RS to the stable and as I don't have much knowledge on these, I performed the obligatory Google search to uncover potential problems. One issue that constantly pops up is spline failure at the gearbox end, which in many cases may not be an economic rep...

Re: Hazards

You tube is full of people that currently sit with St Peter telling him how in the right they were. #-o #-o Ok since we're on the subject here's another one that was fatal. The family bravely agreed to release the footage as a warning to others. When this one first started doing the rounds, riders ...

Oh.
Well the video I posted was of a guy innocently riding along when a wild tiger suddenly emerges from behind the vegetation and tries to take him down.
He has a narrow escape.

Re: Hazards

What surpirises me is that bikers post these clips... at least half of them show the poor riding ability of the bikers themselves. A bit of observation and a little less arrogance and a lot of these circumstances simply wouldn't have happened. Rob Not sure what you mean. I just see a guy on a bike ...

Yeah that's a good idea.
I won't phone James Sherlock though.

R1100RS decals

Hi All.
Just replaced a damaged fairing panel.
I was lucky enough to find a new old stock piece cheap on ebay, which of course is minus the BMW badge and "R1100RS electronic fuel injection" decal.
Anyone know if these are available without getting a wallet bashing off BMW.
Thanks.

Re: Alarm

Hi John, You might want to re-think fitting an alarm and purchase a decent bike chain lock instead. The problem with alarms is that they immobilise the bike which is only partially useful as an anti-theft while they are working properly. I say only partially useful because, unlike a bike chained to...

Re: RNineT Line Up

The RNine T range is really neat. My favorite is the Pure, which in spirit is very close to the R100/7 in my opinion. €14k.
I have the unloved one.
People don't like the riding position but I honestly don't have any issues.

Re: Oil level

Great...so where is the oil level in the glass when cold? I think you missed my point. Get your level right with a warmed up engine. Check it again after it's cooled right down, and that's your optimum level. You no longer need to warm up to check. For example, in the case of my R9T, my ideal level...

Re: Oil level

I have a very simple method for checking oil level even in a cold engine. After a decent ride, I let the oil settle for about half an hour or so, and top up if necessary to the correct level, which for me is about two thirds up the sight glass. Then the next day I check the level in the engine when ...

Re: An interesting trend?

Is it simply because we motorcyclists are at more risk of death or life changing injuries ?
Well yes obviously, but I don't see how additional post test training can be seen as anything other than good, whatever the chosen mode of transport, especially for younger drivers / riders.

Very interesting, but it makes me a bit annoyed that motorcyclists are being singled out for special treatment.
Shouldn't the same post test training also be offered to car drivers ?

Oh I don't know.
Judging by initial sales, people weren't disappointed in the R NINE T when it appeared off the back of the Roland Sands concept commissioned by BMW prior to the bikes launch.
