Re: R1100 RT Ramp or lift?

If I had the space, and I could afford it, I'd love one. I've spent an awful lot of this summer on my knees! Just one recent event makes me slightly wary. My R1100Rt went off balance the other day (shouldn't mess with bikes when I'm unwell) when I was stood alongside and there was no stopping it. De...

Re: A theory (R1100RT)

You're right, I really should check that. I did try a replacement, which had no effect. That doesn't mean it's working, of course.

Re: A theory (R1100RT)

I now have the sensor out. At room temp (approx 60f) it was showing around 15,000 ohms. In boiling water it was dropping only to 1,230 0hms, which according to post 12 here: https://www.bmbikes.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=18126&p=113942&hilit=oil+temp+gauge#p113942 is far too high. A replacement sen...

A theory (R1100RT)

My 1996 R1100RT is on the road and the rebuilt gearbox is working well. I have, however, had some problems. When I got the bike it was hard to start, 'chugged' and blue smoked for a while before clearing. After all the work, which included new plugs, BBS clean, etc, it started and ran well from cold...

Re: Front brake light switch

After more searching I found this (see last post): http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=7557.0 And this, which looks like it has the same part numbers: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cherry-MicroSwitch-Micro-Switch-SPDT-6A-250V-AC-Short-Lever-Leads-IP67-DC1C-C3LB/122810566925?epid=2266682395&hash=it...

Front brake light switch

I've been having fun with the front brake light switch on my R1100RT today. I took it off to add a bit of tape where the wiring casing was split - I think I then over tightened one of the screws. It will now work only with the rear screw just slightly loose - held in place by a dab of silicone. Anyw...

Re: R1100RT gearbox

I put the shaft in the freezer and the bearing in the oven - dropped on easily.

Re: R1100RT gearbox

I've fitted the bearing to the intermediate shaft and measured it against the 'old' one. Spot on.

Re: R1100RT gearbox

Thanks Ced, just read through the thread. Some very useful information all the way through, but although he clearly shows how the input shaft is assembled, my problem is with the intermediate shaft. What is very helpful is that he states that the bearings can be dropped on by cooling the shaft and h...

R1100RT gearbox

I'm getting all the parts together for a gearbox rebuild on my R1100RT. I have bought 80% of a used gearbox, as mine has a damaged swinging arm pivot pin thread (not by me!). This gearbox has much better condition intermediate shaft third gear dogs than mine, but the bearing at the clutch end is mis...

No, I don't blame Ebay. To be honest, that was a senior moment, it was Gumtree

Re: R1100RT, the story so far

Hi Ced, thanks for your detailed reply. The wiring on the HES looks untouched, so I'm hoping it was replacement rather than repair. (Ah, just realised - When I say sheathing, I mean the plastic cover on the connector.) It was actually the main swinging arm threads in the gearbox that were stripped. ...

Re: R1100RT, the story so far

It was an Ebay purchase (no, I never learn). I've had it about a month and have spent many hours in the shed!

R1100RT, the story so far

Hi, I'm new here and have just posted in the 'Introduce Yourself' section. I have recently purchased a 1996 R1100RT that, as expected, needed lots of work. The 'new' front brake pads that had been fitted recently were not new at all - one of them was delaminating. Overall at the front end, I have fi...

R1100RT new owner

Hi, I have recently bought a 1996 R1100RT showing 45k, on which I fully expected to have to do 'some' work. I wasn't wrong. It's keeping me very busy!
