Hi Colin

Hi Colin, I couldn't reply to your post on the For Sale section. I may at some stage get a smaller "classic" bike but since moving here I've not used the bike much (too many house repairs) and mainly because I had a bit of a "scare" on the road which has made me question my vulnerability. I ...

Re: GS Low seat options

Well I found a reasonable price seat on ebay and very pleased with the improvement. Wish I had done it years ago as I feel much more confident when stopping and it hasn't impacted on my "boy parts" as Lolo suggested it might! (And let's just leave aside any further comments about that, thank you)

Re: Why did you do that?

I would add my experience at the weekend, and it's not the first time its happened, is when filtering slowly and carefully past a very long queue of stopped or crawling traffic why some drivers feel the need to steer purposely towards the white line in order to block your progress.

Re: Beware, muppet alert

#-o Sorry Dave, didn't mean to offend! I guess my gripe was primarily the stereotyping of certain bike riders and as a GS rider I am getting a bit thin skinned as everyone seems to have an "opinion" of the typical GS rider of which, I can assure you, there isn't one. Grumble over :protest:

So if you have been riding motorcycles for 48 years and have been an instructor you are beyond having your views challenged or criticized?

Re: Removing engine mounting bolts

Thanks for responses, even with photographic evidence!!! All done now. However the engine bolts weren't the problem it was a little one on the left at the top which after stripping the torx head I took to my friendly local garage man who managed tp get it off for me. I can now drop it with confidenc...

Removing engine mounting bolts

I'm about to fit some crash bars and was told by a friend to warm up the engine first before removing the engine mounting bolts as it will aid removal. Is this a generally held theory?
Thanks

Re: GS Low seat options

Thanks folk and hi. I will keep my eyes open for a bargain BMW seat and give it a go. Hopefully by next year the bulk of my renovations will be over so there will be more time to spend using the bike. Hope all are well and Lolo and Scott are still enjoying the sunshine.

GS Low seat options

Hi all, back after a long break too busy decorating to think about bikes. The bad news is that I have been toying with changing my GS as I think I am shrinking. However after test riding other smaller, lighter bikes they really can't match the GS in any respect apart from being able to put my ...

Re: Wales Mid May 2017

HI George. What is OK for campers? Does this need to be booked and paid in advance for camping or can we make a late decision. I'd like to get up for a couple of days but, as usual, I'm not able to commit to dates until late on.

When you look at prices be aware that this is a 5 year old post of mine that has been resurrected.

Re: Wales Mid May 2017

Hi George. Very impressed with all your efforts and hoping to catch up with a couple of nights camping in Wales. I'll confirm dates a bit nearer the time. Can it be left to the last minute?

Carole Nash did it for £120 which included UK and European breakdown and weren't bothered about the ABS removal.

Insurance and modifications

Renewal for insurance £87 until I confess that the ABS has been removed as this would seem to constitute a modification. Now Swintons say they can only find one insurer who will cover me and it's £145. Anyone in a similar situation?

Re: Dorset area meets

Yes there will be other groups that people can link with and decide what suits them best but the original intention was to get a BM Riders Club group meeting in order to stimulate and grow the activity of this club.

Re: Dorset area meets

Not had any response to say that there are folk interested, or able to get to, a midweek meet down here (except me and Leon) I will forget about a regular meet, may be try again next year, and just put a post in "Anyone want to join me" if I'm planning a trip out. Thanks to Leon for a good ride and ...

Keith/George -Regarding risk assessment, I am refraining from making this a club meet to go on the events list until I know if there is any interest beyond me and Leon.

Unfortunately, most of the meets tend to be weekdays and from that you can gather the average age and employment status of most of the participants!

Next Wednesday is planned date. Will think about venue. Anyone know of a good cafe to head towards - Somerset, Dorset or Devon.

George - how do you do a risk assessment of somewhere you've never been to?

Re: Dorset area meets

Hi Leon - sounds good. I'll meet you there and hope between now and then we find others. I'll be the old guy on a silver GS. Hi George - best mail me a form. Not sure if 2 people really constitutes a meet but, yes I'll try and keep it going. Perhaps Leon and I can get a list of meets for the next fe...
