Facebook Users New BMW page

Hi all, due to the current situation and my lifelong interest in bmw bikes, ive created a Facebook page called Bmw Motorcycles in Camera If any of you guys who use Facebook would like to contribute and share amongst the wider BMW biker community i would be very appreciative. Its brand new so not a l...

Latest Bike Models

Is it just me, or my age? For years, ive always wanted the newest model of bike or car, and have often achieved it. My two hexheads are now 6 and 7 years old, and i thought it was time for an upgrade. Test rode the 1250 rt and rs. Lovely, enjoyed myself on them both, and having ridden a 2017gs a whi...

Re: Hands free ban

Anything not related to the pure act of driving is a potential distraction. Whether it is in car technology, an interesting chat on the radio, or great music turned up loud, the screaming kids, an in car conversation/argument etc, it has the ability to split the drivers attention from the act of saf...

Re: Engine bars for R1250RT

I like the look of bars, just personal opinion. My previous RT's were official vehicles so were standard fit. I fitted BMW official bars to my current 1200 RT SE. Official 1250RT's also have bars, maybe consider the BMW supplied bars, though I expect price wont be cheap. I have heard various opinion...

Re: Trail braking (or my interpretation of it)

He also added “If you think you’re going into a corner too fast .... You’re not....” Pete That sounds like the kind of advice that could get you killed. Jon Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Yes and no! Its advice that is true to a point, but there are, imho, too many variables to give that advice a...

Re: An interesting trend?

What is it likely to cost now to get a full bike license? I was pretty damned gobsmacked when I learned how much it is likely to cost my kids to get a car license and I do wonder what it goes on because driving today seems to be terrible compared to 20 or more years ago. I can only state what the b...

Re: Trail braking (or my interpretation of it)

Jon K, some good advice here. I would suggest that trail braking is a more advanced technique, and often more suited to the track than a road. It can and does have some advantages on the road, but done incorrectly can have more negatives than positives in promoting confidence in bends. Best learned ...

Re: An interesting trend?

Very nice too. Sadly the Bike Shop Faversham closed in 2017. I remember it initially when Robin Powell owned it, but in more recent years Tony Dunderdale, with Tom in the workshop and Nick upstairs. Was a good old bike shop, now Dave Fox Kawasaki in Ramsgate closes next month too. Yes, happy days!

Re: An interesting trend?

Andys, good stuff, yes London riding does have a certain way about it! Its like anything, it can get rusty, but with a bit practice soon comes back again. Not wanting to teach to suck eggs etc with my above post... but thought it might be useful info for some. No, i do all my learner training for In...

Re: An interesting trend?

Glad ERS gave you some benefit Gogs. Shame it was so cold. Im pleased to say that interest in Kent for ERS is growing, more than i anticipated in fact. We've always said that slow speed control is the hard part, because gravity and personal balance is taking over from the other forces which make our...

Re: An interesting trend?

An interesting concept. I do think, however, it's a strange sort of course... Completely agree. It's a bit vague and potentially open to abuse. If I want a proper assessment, I'll do bikesafe. I rarely feel angry when reading posts and try to rise above certain comments i believe that are offensive...

Re: An interesting trend?

I am not, however, completely at ease with your belief that instructors, by virtue of their training & etc. are more (or less) likely to be honest than anyone else (40 years in policing tell me this is not the case), i agree with you, theres as much chance an instructor is dishonest as any other pe...

Re: An interesting trend?

I would agree that the objectives are the same. But I was told by the dvsa that the standard doesn't have to be an iam first or rospa gold. But if the customer wants that standard, it can be that standard. A condition of ers is that the student has to be in radio contact all the time, so this differ...

Re: An interesting trend?

Thanks for your views Rob. So as regards funding, its the same as paying training schools to learn to pass your test. We are commercial of course, but as anyone who works as an instructor will probably tell you, making vast amounts of money is not what bike training is about. wages are not high, and...

An interesting trend?

Ive been training learner mototorcyclists for nearly 9 years now, and in that time have also trained some returning bikers. Recently, I decided to sign up to offer the DVSA's Enhanced Rider Scheme. It has been revamped recently, and I thought that it was sufficiently structured and flexible for me t...

Please stay if you can John, ive always enjoyed reading your posts. Yes, its a fact that some bikes just dont suit some people. Can be a variety of reasons, but youre a biker, which is all that matters!
