Re: 1100RS - Bleeding the brakes !!!

Bleed normally and then zip tie the lever overnight. This works. I spent hours pumping fluid one day without success then all was fine next day after tying the lever back overnight. I usually use a vacuum pump which works well (I have ABS2) unless you have air leaks through the threads of the bleed...

Re: newish disc mark

Measure it’s length and see if it grows. (Photo with a ruler next to it?) If it’s a crack it is likely to get bigger.

Re: Steering.

Check your wheel alignment - run a piece of string across the back wheel to the front and see if the rims line up with the bars straight. You may need to check both sides if tyre widths are different. See https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/how-to/how-to-check-front-and-rear-motorcycle-wheel-alignmen...

Re: Spark plug choice. K1100RT. 1996

I have done 8000 miles since getting it , 3 years ago. The plugs in there now are 5509 BPCR7ET
If they’ve lasted that long, why not replace with the same and change at 6000 miles? Check the heat range is correct in the handbook / manual.

I think that's a good story about the realities of riding a bike in the winter, and how to deal with the challenges sensibly. Thanks for sharing it.

Re: Handguards for K100LT

That's what I thought! One more thing I should have added is that at full lock they just touch the back of my fairing screen. I don't know if this will be the same on your bike but it only reduces the lock by a tiny amount on mine so isn't a problem.

Re: Handguards for K100LT

Hi Jim, I bought some of these recently to fit to my K1100RS: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Universal-7-8-22mm-Motorcycle-Bike-Handguards-Hand-Guards-Protectors-Black/262991069569?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2748.l2649 I made some conical spacers to fit in the end of my bar weigh...

Re: Spark plug booster kit... sceptical but.....

I am still trying to work out the physics of how it works? Surely all manufacturers would know about such a simple device to gain 20% more power! Come on ..... someone buy a set and put me out of my misery! I worked in engine development for a number of motor manufacturers and racing teams for near...

Re: Speedo cal check

The rather dull conclusion to this is that I checked my speedo calibration with the Karamba program - and it isn't bad. The error is no more than the width of the needle (reading higher), which I think is a reasonable safety margin for keeping under the speed limit. So I am going to leave it alone. ...

Re: Speedo cal check

There's something going on I haven't fathomed yet. Three-wire sensors could be Hall effect, which have a power supply. The BMW one is two-wire so I'm pretty sure it is just an inductive one , i.e. a coil round a magnet. If I can think of a way of generating an alternating magnetic field at say 100 H...

Re: Speedo cal check

Well the meter arrived and I excitedly connected it to my laptop frequency generator - only to find that it has a lower threshold of about 5kHz. So no use at measuring 50Hz! Back to the drawing board. I have confirmed that if I pull out the speed sensor and apply 50Hz mains frequency to it with a so...

Re: Speedo cal check

Hi George, thanks for the links. Interesting articles. I think if the speed sensor is inductive it may give a pulse for rising and falling edges of the wheel. As for the frequency i am using, I'm just relying on what the website I'm using to be right. I have no way of checking it. I'm beginning to s...

Re: Speedo cal check

Thanks boxerman but that will just confirm what I already suspect - that it's wrong. It won't help me calibrate it unless I do it by trial and error. If I can find out the right number of sensor pulses per wheel rev, I'm in business. Are you sure K speedos are normally accurate? I've seen a few post...

Speedo cal check

Hello All, having read a number of articles on this topic, my suspicion that my speedo calibration is wrong has increased. So I am trying to check it by inputting a frequency generated by my laptop in place of the speedo sensor on the rear hub. I found a useful site to do this (http://www.szynalski....

Bent wheel

Hello All, does anyone know where I might get my K1100RS front wheel straightened in the Oxford area ? It is slightly buckled on both rims, probably from a pothole and none of the many garages that repair alloy car wheels have a machine that can take a bike wheel. I'm reluctant to send it to the oth...

Re: Fuel tank range

I'm interested in what maximum fuel range people have had from their bikes? I've seen various threads about gauges and warning lights but has anyone actually run their bike until it ran out of fuel (deliberately or otherwise!)? My gauge goes to the red and the warning light comes on at 160-180 mile...
