Re: Yamaha FJR recall

And what are ‘main axles and drive axles’? Sounds like some non technical journalists offerings. :-k

They’re probably layshaft, sorry, layman’s terms

Re: ADMIN FEE?

I’m guessing it’s the same reason as some do with new models.

When they advertise the bike online, theirs comes up first because it’s the cheapest...... then you have the fee.

Re: 1988 R80RT battery

I’ll have to whisper this, I don’t want Barry to hear  Financially-wise I didn’t want to spend as much as I did on Odyssey batteries. But as my bikes live outside and one of Odyssey’s key selling points was their operation at zero degrees, I was happy to go ahead. Then again, my current bikes ...

That’s why I stressed they were my views. I made sure I worded it to make it clear I wasn’t forcing my view on anyone.

Re: Spray washer

To be honest Andy, I didn’t want to run a hose pipe from the tap at the back of the house to the road at the front.
And as I didn’t have a hose anyway, it seemed like a good plan.

Re: I have to ask

I fully appreciate we don’t want to overwhelm the NHS and theses comments are my personal thoughts I stress. Comments okay, no arguments please. In 2015 522,000 died in Britain. Over 210,000 of those was due to cancer. Now we know the COVID deaths stats are for any reason within 28 days. The positiv...

Where’s the clutch on the 500?..... Oh it’s right there in front of me and fully accessible  One of the reasons I like my Bullets, accessibility. Nice bike Tincan and as you’ll discover, very nimble. Here’s my two, taken back to the 50s by Mr Photoshop. 75C3F261-2EB4-4499-A186-3290B2E4D50D.jpe...

And there’s a tiny Bing book and Airhead charging book to the right of the BMs. I don’t want to lose so much money by selling them, but if people were more local I mi...

You’ve only just got yourself a Clymer!!

Call yourself a mechanic!!

Brilliant books. And where Haynes says take it to a mechanic, Clymer shows you how.

I have occasionally had to refer to both, but...

Re: SAE to metric conversion?

Someone at work had a Bluetooth Jambox. I couldn’t justify buying one so I thought I’d make one. So what set out to be a cheap Bluetooth speaker, ended up costing me £100! Superb quality sound, but absolute crappy bass. I had read about size of woofer magnet to cabinet depth etc and it is solid wood...

Re: 1977 R100RS Starter issue

My 1977 R80/7 did this and turned out to be a bad connection for the red power lead going to the relay left of the frame half way along under tank.
Remove tank and try again whilst holding/moving the wires.

Sorry John, was typing this as you wrote.

That’s it, blame Mr Haynes as he’s not here to defend himself

Have you noticed that all manuals show the torque settings for finned Airhead exhaust nuts show 160Nm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: SAE to metric conversion?

The very first time I did the head on a Jap bike I snapped the studs with exactly that mistake. Had it been quoted in lb ft my brain would have stopped me.

There’s only one person to blame for this, but data protection prevents me from naming him

Re: SAE to metric conversion?

I’m sure it applies to many things, but when it comes to mechanics ( read fixing vehicles ) Newton metres are just a name to me. I have my physics O level so know the calculations, but my rear axle nut, 85Nm. That could read 85 potatoes as long as my torque wrench reads in potatoes. The point I’m ma...

Okay, I’ve done the maths and judging by the answers on this page, you’re all old gits  I’m 60. Not an engineer and started fiddling with bikes in 1978; Japanese bikes. Re: SAE to metric conversion?

Just watched a video. Interesting how the Americans refer to 0.375 as 375 thousandths of an inch and not what I would have said .375 of an inch.

Maybe I should start viewing it differently. Maybe I should sell my soul and buy a 1949 something bike..

Re: SAE to metric conversion?

I think for me, it’s just lack of knowledge. In my world of fiddling I would assume that the next size up from a 7/8th spanner is 1 inch. I’ve heard of 15/16th so in this case I know, but generally speaking, I’ve no idea if I had a certain size British size spanner in my hand, what the next up or do...

Re: I have to ask

The problem we have in reality is too many people on this planet and how do we get rid before the earth does it for us? Anyone who cuts down a tree because it blocks light. We need millions of trees planted, especially along railway embankments and river banks to stop erosion... oh no... leaves on ...
