Re: Tom Tom app problem

Thanks for the info Pete - I've ordered the charge only cable and the higher rated USB power supply. Together the cost of the two is less than the cost of the soon to be redundant USB socket I bought from Nippy Norman and a lot less than the cost of a bike sat nav. I'll report how it's working in du...

Tom Tom app problem

I might be a bit of a cheapskate but instead of buying a motorbike satnav I've been using the TomTom app on my iPhone (mounted on a Ram mount) which has worked well. One problem is that it is necessary to have the phone on charge as the app uses battery power quickly. I've installed a USB connector ...

Re: north east clubs

Warren - there are many clubs in the North East and others will detail some of them. I'm associated with Northumbria Advanced Motorcyclists, NAM, (who are affiliated to IAM) and Northumbria Blood Bikes, NBB. Both offer the opportunity to meet other bikers - including many BMW owners - as well as doi...

Eurokclub

I have been looking at a forum for K bikes which I think was/is called EuroKclub. I had a link saved as a shortcut. For the last few days this has been unobtainable and the site seems to be down. Does anyone have any info about this. It was a useful forum (as is this one!)

Should be a great trip. Did you consider the Hull or Newcastle ferries for one of the crossings - ideally the return - to avoid the tedious slog home from the Tunnel

Suggestions for Ireland

A group of us are planning a trip to Ireland for a week in late Spring next year. We will be arriving and departing on the Belfast - Cairnryan ferry. I wonder if anyone with knowledge of the area could suggest a possible itinerary for 5 or 6 nights or some suggestions as to which direction to head i...

Re: Bike cover Insurance

Thats a bit out of date now everything is checked online isn't it? Normally policy documents are online and you download if you want them. It's still relevant if you can be prosecuted for failing to produce. I have removed the quote in my post above as there are restrictions due to copyright accord...

Re: Bike cover Insurance

This is a money making racket that should be stamped on hard! The insurance companies are trying to set a precedent and make extra money by getting riders to accept that pillion insurance cover is an extra. This is nonsense - the majority of bikes are built and tested under the Construction and Use...

Helmet renewal - when?

I was of the opinion that it was advisable to replace a helmet after about 5 years - or sooner if involved in an accident. However at a recent talk given to our IAM branch by the proprietor of a helmet specialist supplier the audience was told that this was unnecessary, and that modern good quality ...

Re: Recycled parts ??

If they are selling body parts as new, are they fitting similarly recycled engine parts in workshops?. That might explain why some of us seem to need the same part (switches, final drive housings) replaced so frequently What next, engine oil strained through a pair of tights and reused?

Re: iPhone 4S - A Tale to be Told

I'm another supporter of the iPhone - it's black magic but very handy all the same. I do agree that the network providers generally offer a crap service .. and then they want to sell you more add ons when you complain about it. I can't get a reliable phone signal at my home address but Vodafone aren...

Re: immediate recall of new R1200rt with dynamic ESA

It seems almost unbelievable to me but when I was in my local BMW dealership yesterday one of the technicians told me that there were 7000 affected RTs in the UK. I wonder if he meant the world? Apparently they have six awaiting the new parts at their site, consequently there isn't a decent bike for...

Re: Helmet Reflective Material - France

Its all been junked while they sort them selves out you dont need to do anything different to the UK (except ride on the opposite side of the road that will help! 8-[ ) so you will need a spare headlight bulb. The arguments on all the changes mean they have put them on hold, even the alcohol tester...

According to something I've just read on the AA site France requires reflective stickers on motorcycle helmets. Has anyone any info about whether or not this is enforced, or any tips on what to stick onto ones helmet

Traffic Fines in Europe

Occasionally even the most conscientious of riders may edge over the speed limit or jump a red traffic light and if this was done in Europe and caught on camera then you are more or less sure to get away with it unless caught and stopped at the time of the offence. Phew! An article in the Sunday Tim...

Re: K1300GT rear drive casing corrosion

I think you've been lucky there... Anything replaced under the extended BMW warranty, doesn't have a new part warranty, but is still covered by the original extended warranty. For example, if you had the swing arm done under warranty, then the warranty runs out, the new part wont be covered anymore...
