K1100 Engine bolts

Postby keiththeoutfitter1 » Mon Apr 26, 2021 7:58 am

The front left-hand side engine bolt on my 1994 K1100RS screws directly into the lug at the end of the frame tube. This bolt forms one of the fixings for the sidecar subframe and was fitted by a sidecar specialist. I have just taken the subframe off for powder coating and the bolt simply unscrewed.
However, I have just seen on the realOEM site that there should be a nut and washer (4 and 6 below) on the end of the bolt. If the lug is threaded to take the bolt, why is there a nut as well?

Just checked, my 1986 K100RS has a nut and washer. Didn’t remove the bolt to check if the frame lug is threaded, but if it is then could this be a locking nut? Would be an odd arrangement though.

Thanks for checking. As you say, it’s an odd arrangement.
