K75 Lights

Postby GeorgeH » Tue Jul 24, 2018 8:02 pm

Hope that someone can make a suggestion on howto improve the headlight (main beam and dip) on my 1988 K75S. Hopefully bettering the what seems to be 2 candle power!
Is it as simple as fitting an up-rated lamp or maybe a sealed beam unit if such a thing exists.
I look forward to hearing from you

Hi George,

Swap the headlight bulb for an Osram Night Racer 110.
Increased light output without increasing the bulb wattage but at the expense of a shorter life.
I have one fitted in my R1100RT.
I don't do a lot of night riding but it's better than it was.

I think that your K75 uses the H4 60/55 W version (twin filament) headlight bulb.
There is also an H7 55W version (single filament).
Check which version your bike uses.

Philips do something similar I believe:

There are higher wattage bulbs on the market, however the switch wiring and OEM plastic bulb holder are marginal, so are likely to get damaged unless you switch everything with relays.

+1 on the Osram bulbs, K bike headlights are like waving a candle, the Osram improves it to reasonable level, but I add halogen spots to all of mine.
