You can get used BMW parts from:

Motorworks: https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Home/index.php

James Sherlock: http://www.james-sherlock.co.uk/

If you put your nearest Town/City Location in your Profile it helps for Assistance and Meets.

Something to make you feel better:

1. If it's not the coil, Motorworks will take it back.
2. If it is the coil, Motorworks give you a warranty.
3. As a Scot, I empathise with the shock of the expenditure.
4. £44 is well spent to get your bike working reliably again.
5. Tak' a wee dram before bedtime.
6. In the morning, you will feel better and realise you did the right thing.
