Starter motor replacement

Postby Brickboy » Mon Sep 13, 2021 6:05 pm

This very reasonably priced motor is recommended by John Gemi no less! Has anyone fitted one and what is the advantage over the original?

It will probably work well enough... for as long as it works. The problem with any cheap knock off is that it's a cheap knock off. The cheapness is normally obtained at the cost of poor materials, poor manufacturing techniques and inadequate quality control... or to put it another way, reliability and longevity are a bit of a lottery. The other issue, of course, is that should the item fail, it is often difficult or impossible to get any form of redress from the seller.

The problem with reviews and recomendations is that no one ever reviews something 3 or 4 years down the line so the have little or no relevance to reliability.

You pays your money and you takes your choice... if you buy cheap, you may get a bargain... or you may get a premature failure... often they will come from the same source.

look for an HC Cargo starter I have fitted quite a few of them over the years and am very impressed by their build quality, they clip the magnets so they aren;t able to fall on to the rotor https://hc-cargo.co.uk/catalog/p/111335--starter

They also do an airhead starter https://hc-cargo.co.uk/catalog/p/111334--starter

Islandmagee in case you're interested?

Thanks all,

I was just curious. My own starter is, as far as it's possible to tell, in rude good health. Hope it remains so
