R60/6 Bing 53 question

Postby Electrajohnt » Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:43 pm

Just taken them off to clean out. On the pilot jet in one of the grooves there seems to be a build up of hard black canker. I have looked at the web for an o-ring, there does appear to be one mentioned but I cannot make out if this is so. If there is one again I can’t make out if it goes in the hole before the pilot jet is screwed in or does it fit in one of the grooves on the pilot jet.
Your help would be appreciated.

I would assume the o ring is fitted to the pilot jet, they normally are in Bings. I’ve had many Bings, but mine were all CV types.
I looked at your carb in my Clymer and it doesn’t make it clear, but checking page 314, I still say the o ring is on the jet. Yes they can be a bugger to stretch over, make sure the o ring is warm, to make it easier and a tiny amount of grease on the user body helps; wipe it afterwards.

Strangely, although that website shows the 'O' ring (item 11) on the diagram, they don't offer it for sale :dontknow: , Fortunately, Motorwoks does...

Don’t you mean part 6?

Part 11 is the anti slosh doohickey.

There should be an o ring in a groove immediately adjacent to the head end of the jet, that is the end that the screwdriver goes. On my 60/7 which I miss greatly the pilot jets used to block from time to time with a waxy type residue so that when held up you could see a restricted or occluded orifice. I ended up getting a spare set, so I could then clean at leisure.
The pilot jet on any carb is a dead cart to block.
One other thing assuming you have chokes is to check the bottoms of the choke pistons. The “rubber “ material which forms the seal against the choke jet can degrade over time enrichening the mixture and causing sooty plugs and poor starting/ running.

Op here,
Thanks everybody, the o- rings are part of my list for the call to Motorworks tomorrow, assuming they are working. Also, thanks for the tip about the rubber seals on the bottom of the enrichener plungers, just been to look, there is nothing there on either, just a recess so that will be in the discussion tomorrow.
Thanks

Just to be clear about the chokes, I had cable operated chokes and it was on that type that the seals could perish. If you have tickler type enrichers this may not be the same, I expect someone will clarify.
Good luck.John.

Op again.
Motorworks discussion with helpful lady called Evonne. Joint review of online fiche ? Spelling. This showed enriched plunger with some kind of insert in the plunger. So ordered two. Also o rings as previously discussed.
