Tank repair / refurbishment

Postby ValleyLad79 » Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:16 pm

Hello

Be gentle with me this is my first technical question.
I got a R50/2...
most of the work I can do myself. But I am a little nervous about repairing the tank.
On both sides the tank ( Schorsch Meier )got holders welded on for the knee rubber protectors.
The one side is rusted to bits that’s needs to be sorted.
Would like to get the tank lined or coated inside.
And the repair painted.
Is there any where close to South Wales a shop that offers it all?

Many thanks

Hi
I don't know and it's your bike now so up to you what you do with it but I would consider sticking the knee rubber on and keeping the out side of the tank paint original

Good luck with what ever you decide

I too would leave it as is on the outside but you need to make it cope with unleaded fuel with Ethanol so lining the inside is a must.

Hi
Frost products are well regarded but I've never used them

I had a look and the internal colour is a reddish / orange .
I does have a few rust flecks in it.
What type of coating or paint could it be ?
