1979 R65 gear lever oil seal leak

Postby rickmickle » Tue Oct 12, 2021 8:49 am

Hello All,
I am having trouble sealing the gear lever on this 1979 R65. Motorworks' double lipped 26x16x7 seal hasn't solved it so I sourced a 26x15x7 seal but oil is still getting out. There's no obvious problem on the seal housing or the shaft. I am going to try cleaning up the lever fixing bolt and putting some sealant on the threads. Has anyone been here before and found the solution?
Best wishes
Richard

Hi Richard,

I don't have an answer for your problem I'm afraid. Just wanted to let you know that you would have a better chance of getting meaningful advice if you were to post this sort of query in the 'Airhead Q & As' forum page where the post 1969 model enthusiaists hang out... this page is dedicated to pre 1969 machines.

Good luck with your issue.

Thanks Rob
I had already realised and posted on the Airheads forum - "Classic" made me think Airhead!
Best
Richard
