Northern Meet Rannoch Station 13th June 2021

Postby Rob Frankhamr » Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:52 pm

Hi All,

Since Keith can't make this one, I'll jump in and spread the word.

The next Sunday Northern Meet is at the Rannoch Station Tearooms at 12:00 on Sunday 13th June 2021

Who can Attend? - Club members, Forum members and Friends of either.

Hope to see you there!

We should be able to sit at a table outside the Cafe....

NORTHERN MEET:

EVENT RUNS FROM APRIL TO OCTOBER INCLUSIVE.

Sponsors to Post in the BMRC Forum 'General Motorcycle Chat' section 5 days beforehand.
INFO: Each Northern Meet venue will have a Sponsor who should advertise and attend the Meet. Club or Forum members can propose a Northern Meet venue to Keith [Ruralman] but the Sponsor of the Meet must be a Club Member.

Directions:

Make your way to Kinloch Rannoch, then follow the B846 a further 16 miles along the northern shore of Loch Rannoch and up on to Rannoch Moor. Stop when you reach the end of the road  ... or... Cross the river bridge from Kinloch Rannoch village square turn right just after the shop (there's only one) and follow that road along the southern shore of Loch Rannoch to it's junction with the B846 at Bridge of Gaur then turn left and follow the B846 to it's end.

The Station Tea Rooms are, believe it or not, on the station platform.

The Tea Rooms are very busy at the moment so I have provisionally booked a table for 6 people.

I thought you could not make it Rob. I am planning to be there either with the Enfield or BMW, depending on weather and any passenger requirements!

I got home today from a trip to Gairloch. In excess of 400 miles on some terrific roads.
Since this exceeded all my expectations, I am now quietly confident (and hopeful) of making it to the meet on Sunday.
I look forward to getting there and seeing some familiar faces again.

Yes Keith, I'm feeling better than I have in months - which is strange when I'm being told that my chemotherapy is being cancelled because it is doing no good !

I can only hope that feeling better lasts for as long as possible. At least until Sunday !

Sorry folks but I'm going to have to take a rain check on this one. Enjoy!

Another great Northern Meet...

I turned up about 11:45 followed by Pete (Tincan3) minus sidecar and one cylinder ( )... For a while, we though that was it but about half an hour later Gordon (Gogs01) and his brother turned up having toured half of rural Perthshire (so we were told) looking for fuel (sorry Gordon but a good story is only made better by judicious exageration)....

The Tea Room wasn't too busy (probably because the weather wasn't brilliant) and Jenny, the tea room owner had reserved a table for us so we were able to sit inside. Lunch was served with coffee, tea and slices of 'home mede' cake while the conversation, as usual ranged far and wide over many topics. A great venue, good food and great company.

Pete's new mount came in for much scrutiny, admiration and discussion in the car park before we left.

The weather was generally cloudy but fine so no one arrived wet and, hopefully, no one got a dowsing on the way home. I know that I didn't as I complied with normal tradition and 'got lost' on the way home riding 90 miles to cover a 16 mile journey.

Thanks to Keith for sponsoring the meet, Pete Gordon and Gordons brother for fine company and last but not least, Jenny, Bill and the staff at the Tea Rooms for a great venue.

Won't be around for the next meet at Moffat... see you all at the one after.

Yep, another convivial meeting and excellent lunch (giant Frankfurter hot dog!).
Gordon's new bike, as usual, much cleaner than mine . .

.I’m very pleased to have made it all the way to Rannoch Stationand all the way home without incident or adverse reaction.

The cause of Norman and I turning up so late was my wish to confirm how the TFT “computer” screen on my bike worked. My plan was to ride in the direction of Rannoch Station until the “low fuel” message came up. This would allow me to check the method of clearing this message before going in search of fuel. With hindsight, not the best plan as we got much further than I anticipated and the round trip for fuel, while it may not have covered half of Perthshire, did cost us the better part of an hour. But I now know how to clear a “low fuel” message. ..... #-o

It’s a shame some of our regulars were on other duties, I very much hope to see them (and any new attendees) at the next meet. Today’s meet was interesting and lively enough but, as always, the more the merrier. Fingers crossed !

Hi Guys, I’m glad your Meet went well and your bikes are performing as they should.
I met up with family in Leek Sainsburys car park because their Cafe doesn’t open until the 21st June…..
Seems like another strange decision but hey-ho that’s life under COVID-19 rules….
Hope to see you all at the end of the month in Moffat..

Keith

From todays BBC news, you may have to wait a bit longer than 21/6

Not entirely unexpected...

I suspect that Gordon's "low fuel" indication was just a thinly veiled excuse and that he and Norman stopped for half an hour to polish his bike before arriving . . . . . . .

No polishing involved, only lack of thought on how far I could get on a bike with a 15.5l tank, of which 3l is “reserve”. I’m able to run for 200 miles without running out of fuel ! Excellent fuel economy.

Next time out I need to see how “headlight pro” works. Without ending up on another mystery tour .....
