Hi Rob,
I have a 48hr pass from SWMBO and was intending heading North on my airhead tomorrow with the aim of camping somewhere on Sat ni. I think I will plan on making the meet Sunday on my way South.
Not sure quite where I will go tomorrow but thinking of the East Coast.

I won’t manage this meet, after getting the results of my CT scan today.

After the failure of the chemotherapy treatment, the tablet treatment was also a failure, so it’s down to McMillan’s nurses to try to make me feel better. They’re not going to do that by reminding me that I can’t ride my bike ! 🙈😒

Therefore if anybody wants to buy a nice, one year old F900XR in Racing Red, with 1900 miles on the odometer and some tasteful mods, please get in touch. PM for more info..

Rob, you missed out last time with the atlatl. Shall I bring that again? We were all able to have a go at the shinty pitch from its 1904 pavilion.

When I were a kid, we used to make our own version of the Atlatl using bambo for the spear and string for the throwing aid. Crude but surprisingly effective once you got the hang of it... must try it again one day to see if I can remember how to do it... May come in useful if I get stranded in hostile territory...

See you there

That's no excuse. it's only a short trip... 172 miles is nothing, you could do that even in Minimo!!!

Seriously, enjoy your holiday... see you soon.

It was a dry day! Rob arrived about ten mnutes after me and we repaired to the cafe to get soup and coffee to consume on a outside bench. The museum was busy with three coaches and many cars in contrast to last year's deserted drizzly day.
I was on the Enfield (classic 500 'Tribute') to which I had attached the atlatl and darts in their tube in "Kill Boll" samurai sword-style. So we went to the shinty pavilion and I demonstrated. Rob had a go but then the density of visitors to the Highland Folk Museum became too problematic and Rob was worried about skewering some, so we stopped, but not before I had given a demonstration and explanation to a passing mother and two small daughters. The mother was interested enough but the small daughters registered no interest even though 'palaeolithic hunters' were cited as former users. Ah well, education does not always fall on fertile ground . . . .
Then Rob had a call from Andy, who had arrived in the meantime and actually was in sight once we looked in the right direction. More conversation around a bench followed. On leaving, finally, Andy called and texted several of his extensive network of friends/acquaintances around the country and in short order secured a free dinner on Skye whence he headed in brisk fashion to get there in time! A nice day out again.

I had a good ride over the bridge to Skye .
But I didn’t scrounge a meal ! we all went out to the local pub for a meal. I paid my share, and got the wine! I did get a space on the floor for my sleeping bag that was core comfortable and less midgey than my tent.
hope to have a good ride back via the ferry to Mallaig and lough Lomond tomorrow.

Yes, another good meet. As Pete says, I arrived a little after him and we went to the cafe for lunch.... then out to try out Pete's Atlatl (paleolithic spear throwing stick for the uninitiated). A fascinating object and Pete's explanation equally interesting. Unfortunately demonstrations were not really on due to the number of people around. I could imagine the reaction if someone were to appear skewered by a six foot aluminium dart and I could equally imagine the management of the museum becoming a trifle sarcastic had they noticed us throwing them about without proper 'precautions'. These things have an effective range of well over 100 metres...

Andy arrived a bit later having come over from Aberdeenshire and we sat and chatted as usual. The world was put to rights and a large number of topics were aired.

This venue isn't the best ride out for me simply because there is really no other viable route than straight up the A9 (which is not a road I enjoy riding). Unfortunately I had an errand to carry out in Inverness after the meet so that entailed MMBA9 (More and More Bl**dy A9). This also took up so much time that my tentative plan to go down the Great Glen had to be binned and I had little choice but to come back the same way. I did manage to get off the A9 and take a detour via Carrbridge, Aviemore and Newtonmore. I also explored the 'old road' through Crubenmore to Dalwhinnie, a 9 mile diversion on what used to be the A9 before the dual carriageway was built. A good road if you want to get out of the rat race. About 35 miles of more interesting roads to make some compensation for main roads, averaging speed limits and marauding Campervans (sorry Keith  ).

Riding distance around 200 miles so not a bad run out for the old 'RS.

Ah yes Andy, free dinners, sorry, well, we can all dream! For sure, inside on a carpet is much better than outside in a tent dealing with midges. I was impressed all your camping gear was inside the panniers and top box. Now you can add Oban to your list. Be sure to give me a shout if your wanderings take you this way, or simply ask the ferrymen where my house is.
The Enfield felt a little skitterish on the bends towards the end yesterday, especially right-handers. When I parked up it was to discover some enthusiastic chain oil had deposited on the tyre edge . . . . Chains? Remember those? Only 194 miles return trip total for me. Unfortunately, like Rob's A9, I have little choice of route westwards but the dry weather and light traffic made for a pleasant ride.

For a single 'simple' bike, I found the chain not the most accessible of chains!

I have just got home to Ashington.
Total trip 818miles.
Today’s tide back from Skye via ferry to Mallaig was nice came along Lough Lomond and saw a couple of police cars at an accident scene that seemed to be a single motorbike accident. Makes you think.
I stopped for my flask of coffee after that.
came through Moffat for fuel and over the St Mary’s Lough Road. a bit damp higher up but mainly dry.
R100R ran well and I seemed to keep up with most of the bikers on more modern machines.
