Weather and everything else permitting, I'll be there. First snow on the mountains this AM and decidedly chilly. Don't know what the forecast is for Sunday...

That's great Rob - look forward to seeing you again.

Frosty here this morning then @ 4C while walking the hound.
However Sunday forecast for Moffat is full sun, no rain and temp around 7C dropping to 0C overnight.

Weather might not be bad Peter - looking like sun all day but getting icy after the sun goes down - be good if you can make this last meet of the season.

Well.... you can't be the only motorcyclist in Burgundy - what about being the sponsor for a Burgundy Meet?

A notice in the local cafes, bike shops etc ? :-k

Another good meet for the 'Northern' crew and the last arranged meet of the season.

Six candidates for a straight jacket braved the cold and turned up at The Rumblin Tum in Moffat... to be fair it was a brilliant day and not very cold at all.

I was going to say the Rumblin Tum was heaving but that paints a somewhat unfortunate picture so let's just say it was very busy and we had quite a bit of difficulty getting enough seats together. Eventually. though, we managed to scare off the customers from the surrounding tables :smt077 and pinch another couple of seats so all was good  . The usual wide range of subjects were discussed including electrics and we managed to avoid talking about Brexit (much) so the world was generally put to rights.

My initial intention was to have been to travel the simplest route down the A9, M80, M73, M74 but I couldn't persuade myself to use the most boring road in Scotland (A9) all the way so I gave in and went over the hills to Aberfeldy, through Crieff and came out a Greenloaning. A much better run. The return run was much the same in reverse except that I stayed off the M74 until Hamilton using the B7078 (a much nicer road)... Got home just as the last light left the sky, about 17:10.

My thanks to everyone who came and to Keith for arranging it once again.

Looking forward to meeting up with everybody next year...

Rob

I set off for this one just a little concerned about the temperatures and road surfaces I might encounter but I was never cold and the worst I had to cope with was a few wet areas and a little mud from adjacent fields - not bad at all for late October in Scotland. Oh - and dazzling sunshine !!

I arrived at the Rumblin Tum a little early and found the tincan3 sidecar outfit there already. A search of the cafe and immediate environs did not turn up the rider (driver ?) who, it transpired, was exploring Moffat. We eventually totalled six hardy souls and had food and much interesting conversation before going our separate ways for the last time this year.

Thanks to all who turned up - hope to see you all in 2020 !

Another great Northern Meet!

I set off from Dumfries in full sun although the roads were a bit damp from overnight frost or rain - looked a bit greasy in places too.

After my failure to attend the last Meet due to breaking down in the Dalveen Pass I was wondering what would happen this time as the fault cleared and has not returned for over 100 miles since.

Arriving in Moffat without any problems, I spotted Peter's [tincan3] sidecar outfit parked near the café.
Gordon [gog01] was inside but no Peter - I checked twice as the café was pretty busy but no sign of him.

While chatting with Gordon, Peter [Jockboxer] arrived and we all had a good natter when Rob [Rob Frankhamr] and Neil (from Newcastle) turned up with the other Peter who had been exploring Moffat.

With the café being busy, accommodating the six of us together around one table was a bit of a problem but it got sorted out in the end.

I was able to catch up on Gordon's Slovenia trip which I missed hearing about last month.

Peter [tincan3] had an interesting story about kayaking up the West coast to Skye calling in at the Isle of Rhum where I worked for a period many decades ago so that brought out a few memories!

A very enjoyable last Meet of the year - thanks to everyone for making it so!

Moffat on Sunday was bright, sunny and quite busy with motorcyclists.
Having arrived early a coffee and slice of serious chocolate cake in the Rumbling Tum set me up to start exploring the town. I swanned around the streets taking in the sights while trying to figure out the correct time. At one point I concluded that the town clock had not been set for GMT and was still on BST. However, it turned out I had, in fact, unwittingly managed to reset my digital watch in the Rumbling Tum - must've been the chocolate cake . . .
Then Rob turned up and we found the others in the depths of the cafe.
The talk included discussion of ferries and the old Ballachulish turntable ferry was described. It would have taken about three minutes to cross the narrows now overshadowed by the present bridge. That reminded me of the humorous Corries song "The Portree Kid" which the assembled company had never heard of. One of the characters in the song had been a (river) gambler on the ferry. Enjoy!

Very amusing... the Portree Kid that is, not the photo...

Following on in Youtube, I was even more amused to find a rendering of The Braes o' 'Killicrankieo' by the same pair. The last half of the accompanying video shows some interesting shots of Pitlochry and the old A9 through to Killicrankie village. I would put the date of the video as being in the mid or early sixties.

Another good meeting that I enjoyed in Moffat, good company and interesting conversation topics.
I had a scenic ride along side St Mary's Loch on the way there and Hadrians Wall on the way home, a great way to spend the weekend.
Cheers fellas, see you next year.
