F800 GT Drive Belt

Postby Ayrman800 » Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:27 pm

Hi All,

I want to check the drive belt tension on a 2017 GT, I noticed in the Haynes manual it quotes using a special tool or a spring balance.
Just wondering what everyone else does and is the tool available to buy, if so how much are they and where can you get it.

Cheers.
Cheers Stuart.

A few years ago Gates released an app for Android that would listen to a twanged belt and tell you the tension.

It seems to have disappeared but I believe it is the best way to tension any belt.

Does not really help you much but is interesting.

The BMW part number is 83300417779 (Cartool number 27-1-541).

It is the same tool as called for on the earlier belt drive models. I bought one for the BMW Club's tool hire facility in 2014 and it was £125 (inc VAT).
