Thanks for the suggestions---I've had three Yamaha Majesties--O.K. until the drive belt comes off...Had a Yamaha T Max 500cc which cost me £494 for a service--Twice as costly as Diane's Mercedes so that rules them out...I am tempted by the Enfield bikes though..Anyone had one here?

Hi
Bryce had the 500 and has the new 400 on order, I would test ride a 400 myself if it had more power, in fact I probably will.

The 300 versa looks good on paper and John likes his 650 versa

If I could find an F650 I could be tempted and I know of a Pegasso being offered cheap

Sympathy for you fella.
I know what you're going through, the 'cold turkey' is a real ****.
I was in the same state a couple of years back when a dumbass mountain biker clobbered me while me and Her Majesty were walking our mutt. I ended up busting my wrist and my right arm looking like a hedgehog with all the pins sticking out.
As my old RAF boss used to say when someone suffered a sports related injury, "If it was your own fault and looking for sympathy; you'll find it in the dictionary between $"!t and syphilis"

Seriously don't rush the rehab.

Well I will be out of action for a while. I go in to hospital on Friday 9th for my left hip replacement. It's my 65th birthday so I will get a very expensive present if all goes well. The down side is my tremors and balance can not be fixed, so if I ride any of my bikes I may drop them at slow speed.
That's whey I went to a trike. #-o It will be a case of wait and see after my hip is sorted.
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

Hi,
You have my sympathy. I missed the whole year ( more or less) due to broken ribs, punctured lung and pneumonia. Now that I'm mobile again, the weather is rubbish and I'm rotting in the house with only an anti social, semi feral cat for company. I hope the weather gets better so I can get working on the bike ( or go fishing) otherwise I will run the risk of running out of stuff to watch on Netflix.
Hope things work out in your favour.
Ian.

Ian.
That makes at least two of us then!
I've missed more than a full year due to double pneumonia and two eye operations.
I hope I still have my original enthusiasm and capability for riding when the weather is suitable. [-o<

Well its been 10 days and am healing well. Next few days I am going to start cutting down on the pain killers and see how it goes. The worst part is sleeping on my back for 6 weeks and snoring for team GB. Should be healed up ready for some summer runs with swmbo.

Definitely + 1 on not overdoing things! Don't be like me and learn the hard way. I had a total hip replacement (RHS) on June 1st last, all went well and by the autumn I was pretty well back to doing things normally. However, one morning in November I was bent right over removing some carpet on the landing when I must have somehow twisted awkwardly and my new hip joint dislocated. Very strange, but I felt it go. Long story short, had to call an ambulance, a trip to A&E, where a surgeon managed to manoeuvre the joint back into position under general anaesthetic. I saw a physiotherapist after that and he warned me that the soft tissues around the joint can take up to 24 months to heal fully. Bear in mind that with an artificial joint there is no ligament holding it together and it relies fully on surrounding muscle tone to maintain integrity. BTW, I'm now 72 years old and had my left hip joint replaced in 2007. That's never given me any bother at all. HTH.

Well a quick update. Had my stiches out and the healing is going well. I still have some pain as the swelling is going down. Will be seeing the doctors late march and I hope he gives me the ok to drive. I have been told to stay off bikes for at least 6 months so will be on my 3 wheeled airhead trike. Its easy to get on and off plus I don't need to put down my foot when I stop. Well it will get me out and about to do some serious tea drinking.

PS Thanks John for putting in the bit about the mess. I was to doped on pain killers to think about that.

Glad the stitches have come out OK. Interestingly I didn't have stitches to close my wound, the surgeon used a type of superglue named "dermabond", which sounds like something you'd buy from B & Q! Gave no bother whatsoever. A decade ago when I had my other hip done metal staples were used, after a couple of weeks the district nurse came round and removed them with a special pair of pliers, and let me keep the tool. They're still in my "might come in useful one day" box of bits, though I've never used them since.
