Raven Sighting

Postby boxerman » Thu Mar 22, 2018 4:03 pm

Some months ago. at the woods, I heard what I was pretty convinced was a Raven calling for a few minutes but I haven't heard it since so had assumed that I must have been mistaken but this morning I was fortunate enough to witness a brief aerial battle between two Crows and one Raven directly overhead. It was ideal for IDing as both were calling loudly and the different call was clear to hear. They actually flew side by side for a few seconds and the difference in wingspan hit you in the face. The whole incident probably lasted no more than a minute before the Raven flew off in defeat but it was a perfect interlude in the mornings work..

Well, this morning upped the count to two Ravens which may well mean we have a breeding pair in the forest. Spent 3 or 4 minutes just watching them drifting in the wind and one was kind enough to give a call and confirm ID.
