I have to ask
Now that the vaccine has been announced, are you going to try and get ahead in the queue for it?

No, I'll wait my turn... I'm sure there are a lot of people who are going to suddenly become vulnerable or in an essential occupation to jump the gun.

I've volunteered to be a guinea pig for the vaccine to be trialled in Tayside and Fife. Really !

Pretty sure I would qualify for an early one but I am also pretty sure I don't want it until lots of people haven't developed complications.

Re: I have to ask
Well I am surprised at how quickly you’d be happy to try a new vaccine. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself further than that.
Of course if I were dying in bed, then I’d probably try anything.

Re: I have to ask
In a way, it's irrelevant who gets vaccinated first, it's the number of people who are vaccinated that's most important. In fact, I could construct a case for vaccinating 16 to 30 year olds first and elderly people last.
Whatever you think, it isn't going to make any real difference to the situation for several months after introduction however they are distributed.

True Rob Whilst my quip above was meant to be humorous
You are correct If humanity had actually managed to sit on its backside for 14 days and not go out
Very likely it could have fizzled out altogether But Humans aren;t very good at being told what to do
But yes Younger ones first so they stop transporting it amongst people! and on to those who have isolated
One hopes it is as effective as they say

Without doubt start at the young end and stop when the virus is controlled. Young people are much more able to cope with any problems and if they do not do the young then they cannot stop. Young first and it is likely old damaged gits like me will not need it.

So, Boris had Covid a while back…
Now he self isolating because of a meeting he attended...
So, will this carry on forever then! If you get it, but then get notified again via Track and Trace, I feel a game of ping pong going on forever!

Re: I have to ask
For me what's relevant is that it normally takes between 10-20 years to develop a vaccine.
This one is ready in a matter of months.
This isn't a pill that you'll naturally excrete over time.
This goes into the bloodstream and stays with you for the rest of your life.
Once done there is no turning back.

Re: I have to ask
I'm with you Andy for a different reason; maybe the same.
I have a great skill. That great skill is getting side effects from medicines. Enough so, that I really have to think hard about anything I take.
I won't go into specifics except one, for some other reason gave me Bell's palsy style symptoms. Stopped the meds and back to normal straight away. And before you say it, my normal

Me too but not called yet. Apparently it's out of your system within days but prepares the defences. My year at school was the last intake to get polio. We owe vaccines a lot.

A bullet does that. Can b in and out in half a second it is what is left behind that does the damage. :)
No thanks, not yet.

Why do they need to advertise for volunteers.A bullet does that. Can b in and out in half a second it is what is left behind that does the damage. :)

There's a huge army of NHS workers who with their knowledge, ethnic diversity and expertise should be the ideal candidates for vaccine trials.
You'd think they would be chomping at the bit to do their bit for medical research.

That would not be an "average" cross section of society in general. It may be a good cross section of types of people but they need every type of person in every type of job with every type of susceptibility.
Note: They don't need me. :)

There are numerous job roles within the NHS including office, driving, security and manual labour.
I bought this up because I put it to a friend of mine who's a nurse who's exact words were "no chance"

You do not hear much about testing gone wrong but there are lots of severe problems caused by it. All kept as quiet as possible.
Re: I have to ask
It's a conundrum. Without willing human volunteers there would be no vaccines at all.
Medical science has done amazing things over the decades.
My issue here is that vaccines have normally gone through years of developments and tests before human testing which is the last stage.
Here we have a vaccine that's reached that stage in well under a year and now they want to give it to us.
We all become lab rats.

Re: I have to ask
Many of them al;ready have been... This isn't the first set of trials, just the first set they are telling you about. Anyway, you'll find that a lot of NHS workers (far more that they're telling you about) have already had the disease so the results wouldn't be particularly useful. Why do they need to advertise for volunteers.A bullet does that. Can b in and out in half a second it is what is left behind that does the damage. :)
