Hello all, just thought I'd introduce myself. Formely from Cumbria I now live in Normandy, France. Been riding bikes over 20 years and now for the first time have bought a BMW. It's an old but immaculate R1150RT. Thanks for letting me join. Cheers

Hi All,
I had been entertaining the notion of moving on to a BMW bike for some time as they definitely seem a bit more weather proof with the shaft drive and so on. I seemed to be spending a lot of time cleaning up my Triumph Sprint after even the slightest bit of wetness and muck on the road. Also I did hire an excellent G1100s when in IOM for a week which I liked a lot. So when my ancient Triumph Sprint developed an obscure problem with incorrect voltage to the fuel pump indicating that the ECU probably needed replacing, a very short time later I became the owner of a 2004 K1200s.

I was a little apprehensive with taking on the K1200 initially as I was hoping for a slightly lighter bike than the Sprint to make for easier parking (the G1100 I used in IOM certainly felt no heavier than the Sprint) but the 1200s is decidedly heavier.!!
That being said I am finding no problems with the 1200 now I am used to it. Otherwise it is proving to be a great bike, very smooth engine with bags of power and a really nice feel about it, although the Sprint may have had a little more torque upper mid range, probably due to its engine had been re-mapped and so on it certainly did not hang about but it was also a bit edgy which I don't get at all on the BMW. The more I use the 1200s the more I really like it. There is a slight problem in that the cooling fan has become a bit intermittent, and I am hoping someone else may have had this problem, but all in good time.

Greetings, Finally was able to register but I was having some technical issues doing so. I live in a small town in Ohio USA and am 72 yrs old. Been riding bikes for 59 years and currently have an 81 R100RT with 176XXX miles on it. Also had an 1150RT that I sold a few years back (too computerized and top heavy) I do 99.9% of my own work. I use to attend many rallies but that has come to an end a couple years ago, most of my riding friends have stopped riding for one reason or other. God Bless and ride safe!

Hi,
I'm about to buy my 1st BMW. It's a 1996 R1100RT and looking forward to covering a lot of miles throughout Europe on it.
It won't be my main bike, but I need a workhorse as my 96 Bandit is getting a bit tired for distance work, having had a hard life.
I always used to think they were for boring or old people, but now I'm getting older (50+) but no way boring.😎, I now realise their purpose in life.
My rides:
Bandit 1200 1995 - main
VMax 1200 1999 - animal
BMW R1100RT 1997 - mile muncher
GSX 1100G Trike - family ride and head turner

Greetings from Australia. I am 76 Years young and been riding on & off since my early twenties. I currently own and ride a 1978 Honda CB750 & a 1984 BMW R100TIC which I have restored to a naked bike. I look forward to reading what others have done to their bikes. Maybe I can help with some of their problems as well as look for solutions to mine. I am a retired Elec/Instrument Engineer. I enjoy making my machines run as the manufacturer intended. Pat

Cheers George.
The bike I was meant to pick up last Saturday fell through as the guy selling it,trashed it on gravel on the Thursday night taking out both mirrors, damaging the fairing and screen. I feel sorry for him, as it was a lovely bike, but now only good for spares or repair.

Luckily,it worked in my favour,as I went to see another bike instead at short notice at the same price with half the mileage, nicer colour with colour coded panniers and an hour closer to pick up.... Happy days!
