It's hello from me...

Postby Blapper » Fri Sep 03, 2021 10:35 pm

Hi everybody, glad to be here. Thanks to the admins and mods for making it possible.

Back in the day I had an R65LS and R100RS before moving on to the K range. I always liked the airheads, their low C of G, reasonable weight and shaft drive made them very attractive to me. Now I'm retired, their simplicity has tempted me back. I have bought a 1991 R80RT which alas needs a lot of work.

There are basically three ways to get pictures to show on this forum...

1) Use the inbuild image display option. You'll find that at the bottom of the editing page (you must be in 'Full Editor and Preview' if you are posting a reply but you're automatically in that page when you start a new thread), there is a tab marked attachments. Click into that and you'll find you have an 'Add Files' option Once the file has uploaded you are able to place the attachment in line... like this...

The only drawbacks with this method (a) is that it will only allow quite small attachments... around 200 KB max and most images straight from the camera or phone are substantially bigger than that so you have to post process many omages to a smaller size before loading them and (b) that only three attachments are allowed to each post.

2) The second method is to use an image hosting service. This seems more involved but is actually quite simple and you can post just about any size of image. I will talk about the service called 'ImgBB' because that's the one I use. There are many others and the method of usage is pretty much the same.

First log into the service and create an account. Most services allow a limited free account which is quite adequate for occasional posts to bulletin boards and forum.

Next use the hosting services web page to upload your chosen images... normally just a 'drag and drop' or 'point and click' method... and wait till you get the 'uploaded' message.

On the webpage, there will be a link marked 'embed codes' or similar. Click the link and you will see a series of code segments which can be copied to the clipboard. For the forum chose the segment marked 'BB Full' and copy it. Next go to your post and paste the link where you want the image to appear. (Incidentally, you can also use the other links to paste into other forms of document or email). Once done, you're image will appear full size in the post like this...

There are effectively no limits either on size or number of images as it is only the 'embed' code that is saved on the forum. Drawbacks... The one off sign up process, the fact that big images can take a while to download if the reader is on a poor broadband service and the possibility that the host may go down or decide to charge at sometime in the indeterminate future...

3) If you have a domain and are adept at saving files online, you can insert a 'URL' link to an image in your post (like this).

https://img1.wsimg.com/isteam/ip/dc3076 ... h:700,a:cc

or an image link (like this).

Hope that helps

Rob
