Dear members,
I am based in London and have recently acquired a 1978 BMW R100rs. In the past I owned an R60/6 and a K100. I currently have a Honda CBR1000RR too and a K100 in bits that I am hoping to put back together/complete one day...
Then at my local garage I spotted the BMW R100rs and felt it was too good an opportunity to miss.
The bike has 54000 on clock, had one owner from new and is in pretty good shape.
I have taken it out for a couple of rides and it ran well. I had to fix an issue with the headlight and fitted a new relay, cleaned up some connections and wiring in the headlight.
I have fitted new inlet rubbers between carbs and cylinders as these were a bit perished and that's about it.
I am going to fit new filters inside the tank as there aren't any and I have seen some issues with possible debris getting into the carbs and the bike running badly.
By Jove it’s working!

Pressed submit too soon...
I will post a pic when I work out how to do that...
Anyway, I am happy to connect with forum members in London if there are any who want to so that we can share ideas etc.
Cheers
Neal

Hi Neal,

Welcome to the fourum!

Posting Photos:

METHOD 1:
Using the Forum 'Upload Attachment' method you are limited to uploading a picture of not more than 1200 x 1200 pixels max dimensions, 250Kbytes max file size.
Any problems will be advised when you try it. You can then add up to three pictures/post.

Here's how:
1. Go to 'Full Editor & Preview'.
2. Scroll down and select 'Attachments' tab.
3. Select 'Add files' and browse for your picture (max 1200x1200 pixels and 250Kb filesize).
4. Add any 'File Comments' to be attached to the pic.
5. Place your cursor in the post where you want the pic to be located.
6. Select 'Place Inline'.
7. Repeat from (2) above for up to a total of three pics/post.
8. Select 'Submit'.

If your pics are too big (> 1200x1200 pixels and 250Kb filesize), see the following depending on the device you are using:

Windows: I use Windows Paint (tabs Home/Resize) which allows you to resize a pic and save it under a different filename
e.g. 'existing filename'_ small.

iPad/iPhone: For iPad/iPhone photo resize, go to the App Store and download a free Photo Resize App such as 'Simple Resize'.

Mac: For Mac photo resize go to the Preview application where there is a resize function.

Paint on tank is faded and flaking off around petrol cap. My garage in Tooting know a good bloke who resprays and does a very good job recreating the original paint scheme.

Hi Neal,

Welcome here
Very nice RS... I'm always suspicious when hearing "first owner" and less than 100k miles for an airhead, but I think you have ways to check that out in the UK which we don't in France.
Have you checked the VIN? is it a "real" RS (looks like it) ?

Very nice one.
I like the faded tank. She's aging grecefully.

Nice looking bike, not sure I recall that colour being an option for the RS in 1978.

Good point. The fairing seems red, the tank and bodywork Burnt Orange. Might have been an "S" originally.
